    My One Special One – Chapter 27

    When Tina sat down after finishing, for the last time she hoped, Steve leaned over slightly to her and whispered, “Here goes.  One, two and three…”

    “Gentlemen, I’d like some time to go over the arguments.  Since it’s late in the day, I’m going to have the jury brought in and dismiss them until tomorrow.  I’ll render my decision in the morning.   Bring in the jury.”

    * * *

    The jury had been excused and the defendant taken back to lockup.  The cavernous courtroom was empty except for Tina and Steve still sitting at counsel table.

    “Well, we’re almost there, Tina. We have no list of witnesses for the defense.”

    Tina heard Steve but was momentarily distracted by her inner thoughts.  She didn’t respond.

    “Tina?  Earth to Kennard…come in, please.” Steve playfully goaded his friend.  He knew she was concerned for not only this case, but also the recent problems and fears regarding her ex.

    “I’m sorry, Steve. With everything going on I space out periodically.  Threats to Bette – now John showing up – it’s beginning to take its toll. I hate the fact that I’ve allowed it to do that.”

    Steve reached across and placed his hand on Tina’s and gave it a gentle and reassuring squeeze.

    “Tina, you’re just a human being.  Please stop being so hard on yourself.  If you weren’t concerned, I’d have to put you up for the ice princess award.  In case you’re wondering, your worry hasn’t shown up in the way you’ve handled this case.  To me that’s pretty amazing. Within 48 hours this whole thing will be over.  The jury will make their decision and we’ll move on.  Hey, the best part is it’s our last case in front of Chuckie Cheese!  Now, I know you’re very sad about that, aren’t you?  Come on, you can cry on Stevie boy’s shoulder.”

    “Thanks, Steve.  You’re a good friend.  Let’s get the hell out of here, okay?”

    * * *

    “Hey, there.  Just wanted to check in with you to confirm getting together on Sunday.” Ann Kennard tried not to sound too excited, but was afraid she wasn’t doing a very good job of it.  Oh, what the hell, she thought.  It’s brunch and we haven’t talked to one another one on one in decades.  Who wouldn’t be excited.

    1. Loving that they are getting closer. Also looking forward to Tina’s mother Ann reconnecting with her one true love. I can’t wait to read how that happens. Please don’t let the wait be to long. Tina and Bette need to move in with each other asap.

    2. Ditto! I love this, and this ‘Bette & Tina against the world’ makes it even more delightful! Beautiful how close they are and you give us this feeling that what’s going on out there, whatever scary conspiracy, will never succeed in getting them appart… Please, prove me right! Thanks for a fascinating story!

    3. well i’m glad tina is at bette’s… but did she have to go to her place alone… she’s looking foir something bad to happen… and rick… he gives me the creeps… i hope someone gets him fast… i hope he gets some bad shit… love this story…please continue soon…

    4. Hey Acreextl, I can completely identify with the way life interferes with writing and reading but on to this amazing tale. This story is full of love and mystery along with a large dose of malice. The adoration that Bette and Tina exhibit is awesome; they just complete one another in the most primal and basic sense. The sum of their parts is so much more than the individuals. There is a realistic portrayal of love and passion. It is great to discover that the threat is an old boyfriend of Tina and not someone from the case however John is turning out to be a real piece of work as I am sure he called Ann as part of his devious plan. Just trying to figure out what his endgame will be. As for Ralph, just a big waste of space and am sure that there is a come-uppperance in his near future. Thank you so much for continuing with this must-read story using all of your imitable and twisted mind. Your gratiful and Loyal Fan.

    5. I hope that John makes a mistake and is carted away to spend some time with his buddies, the inmates of some prison. I love this epic for your story telling and soft words of love and life.
