My One Special One – Chapter 20
For all the years of her life, Bette Porter’s eyes never looked into the soul of anyone because her fear never allowed her mind or her heart to focus on anything but the terror of her insecurities and the damning legacy she felt her father had bestowed upon her. Melvin Porter had given his daughter stature, intelligence, confidence and the intestinal fortitude to succeed. All she ever wanted were three syllables: I love you. She never got it because in Melvin Porter’s world, those simple words showed weakness. Although her mother told her often how much she loved her, it was the immutable Melvin, her father, she so wanted to hear those three simple words from – but they were never uttered. So in turn she never spoke those words to anyone or allowed anyone to say them to her – until she fell head over heels in love with this gorgeous creature standing before her.
Now their love was the only thing that truly mattered.
Bette took Tina’s hands in hers. “May I kiss the woman I’m going to marry?”
“Yes, you may, Bette Porter.”
Tina knew for right now Bette’s question was the only yes answer that Bette could give to her proposal. And that was okay. It didn’t matter how she phrased it. What mattered was their declaration of love, trust and devotion to each other.
As Bette’s lips joined Tina’s in the softest of a most sensual kiss, these two women knew this was an unspoken statement and sealing of their commitment shared solely between them. Soon friends and family will be witness to the spoken declaration of an endless love the Fates so graciously granted them.
If We Could Marry
If we could marry
Would you be my wife?
Would you be
The other half
Of this woman’s life?
If we could marry
And I asked you tonight
Would you hesitate
In replying
or quickly say yes?
If our hearts were free
And allowed to do
What is right
I would fall to my knees
And place my heart
At your feet
I look in your eyes
And ask you direct
If we could marry
Would you be my wife?
Would you be
The other half
Of this woman’s life?
I wait for your answer
And I tremble with fear
To have you
Then lose you
With one syllable
Would be too much to bear
Your arms pull me in
You place your lips to my ear
In a voice gentle but firm
You give me your answer
If we could marry
My answer is Yes
I would be your wife
A thousand times over
Assured by the force of law
And the sanctity of our hearts
I am
The other half of your life

Hey Arceextl, That was jaw droppingly beautiful as Bette suddenly became the child and Tina the adult. It was tender as Tina coaxed the truth from her lover about her fears and issues with repeating the past. Thankfully Tina was there to reassure and support Bette throught this troublesome sea of concerns and navigate Bette to the safe haven that is Tina’s warm and welcoming arms. Gorgeous and gentle. Thank you for this pleasure and delight. Your Loyal Fan.
I love this story and your writing, I hope you know that by now, but this chapter wasn’t doing it for me I’m sorry to say. I can’t exactly say why, only that this wasn’t the way it should’ve happened if you ask me…..I don’t feel that Bette wants this 100%. But I’m really looking forward to the wedding and especially the honeymoon LOL. Post soon…
Wow, so beautiful! Bette said YES, that’s a good thing, though I feel they might be rushing things a little. I mysself would be happy just moving together without doing the marriage thing as well. Ove your story, so keep it coming! Thanks for posting!
I love your poems, they are eyes to most of our inner souls. You can love someone and still struggle. Usually that struggle is whether they are still going to be there when you wake up. I am glad that you posted this chapter. This story brings two beings together with all their flaws and pain and puts them together as one.
R – I agree…’family’ isn’t defined by blood. Blood means nothing to the body without the heart – the organ that pumps the blood. If you listen to your heart it will tell you who your family is. I love your writing, your story, and especially your poems. Thanks for writing, and as always, can’t wait for more.
RC, you are awesome. Thanks for a wonderful story. Wish we could all have that love.
Beautiful. It always sends a chill through my spine when the communication between these two is so open. Tina can be such a pillar of strength and Bette is so lovely when she opens up and shares her insecurities . I love this story.
Good chapter. Good that Bette say yes and happy for them. Ok post soon please, thanks!

I swear I could go through a whole box of tissues reading your work. lol So Bette didn’t say yes, but in a roundabout way she did. All that matters is she didn’t say no. Looking forward to more!
