    Tina hears from the past; Sinister folks attempting to ruin her future with Bette?

     

    God, how she disliked this pompous ass, but they needed to win this case.  Every other drug case, save one, before him had ended in a mistrial or a not guilty.  All the defendants previous had been small cogs in the enormous drug wheel in Philly.  This defendant was very close to what makes the wheel go round and round.  Nearly $750,000 in drugs, cash, paraphernalia and weapons were netted in his arrest.

     

    “Your Honor, all the police witnesses were notified well in advance to be here today.  I don’t want to delay this trial any more than you do.  I am prepared.  You know full well I have no control over a change in scheduling of detectives and police officers…”

     

    “Maybe you should have a bit more control over your attitude, young lady.”

     

    Tina could feel the heat rising to her face.  This idiot had been all over her like a bad cold for months now and she was over it.

     

    “May I approach sidebar, your Honor?”

     

    “There’s nothing to discuss at sidebar, Miss Kennard.  I suggest you use the short recess I’m about to grant to make your calls to get your witnesses, any witnesses in here to testify.  The jury is excused for half an hour.”

     

    Tina had already told Steve to get on the phone to the detectives and find out what’s going on and to get a warm body over to the courtroom ASAP.  She then stepped into the hallway and walked a short distance away from the courtroom.  She took out her cell and called Bette.

     

    “Hey, how’s it going, Baby?”

     

    “Well, tell me to count to ten and also remind me why I want to do this job.”

     

    “That bad, huh?  Okay, just remember what you told me.  After this case, you’re done being in front of this judge for a while.  More importantly, remember, Ms. Assistant District Attorney, you can always lay down the law with me.” 

     

    “Oh, is that what we’re calling it now?” Tina laughed and it felt good. “I love you.  I’ll call you tonight.”

     

    “I love you, too, Baby.”

     

    Tina closed her cell, turned to head back to the courtroom and saw Steve walking fast in her direction.

    13. I can’t remember if it was last night or this morning when I wondered when you’d have time to post a new chapter. I finally managed to finish up on your first story after reading it off and on for several months (I’m a slow reader…shush =p) and absolutely loved it. Normally I’d think, “Lawyers, courts…zzzzzzzz…BOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!” But having B&T involved makes it very interesting. It’s like you snuck in law lessons without me even knowing.
