Music to my Ears (Chap 5)

    Previously…

“What? Were you just playing with me then? Making me look like an idiot because I didn’t realize you were some famous person??” Tina said poking Bette on the shoulder.

“No Tina, I wasn’t” Bette replied.  “That’s not what I was doing.”

“Then what?” Tina asked, her eyes glossing over with tears. “I’m such an idiot” Tina said turning around and walking towards the elevator.

“Tina wait” Bette said rushing a head and standing in front of the doors.

    “What?”

“I…I…” Bette struggled to find the words.

“Never mind” Tina said under her breath as she step around Bette and into the elevator.

Bette could only watch as Tina disappeared behind the silver doors.

“Wait!” Bette yelled as she slipped her hand in last minute, stopping the elevator doors from closing completely.

“What do you want Porter?” Tina said full of frustration.

“Why do you think you are an idiot?” Bette said softly slipping into the elevator.

“Because…” Tina said her anger slowly subsiding and being replaced with embarrassment as she looked down at the checkered floor.

“Because why?” Bette said moving a little closer.

“Because I guess…I don’t know…I should have known” Tina said with a huff.

“Known what?” Bette asked in a soothing voice.

“That I was just a charity case for you” Tina replied looking up at Bette.

Bette couldn’t help but laugh which received an angry look from Tina. “I’m sorry, but it is kind of funny” Bette admitted.

“I don’t see the humour” Tina said flatly.

“Let me explain” Bette said, hitting the emergency stop button on the elevator. “You are not a charity case for me” Bette said looking straight into Tina’s eyes. “If anything, you are the one showing me charity.”

Tina merely rolled her eyes at Bette.

“I’m being serious Tina. I’m the one who stumbled into your office, you were kind enough to let me hide out there. Then today, you were nice enough to let me spend some time with you. You didn’t have to do that” Bette pointed out.

“So what’s the funny part?” Tina asked.

“The funny part is that you think you are my charity case, when that has never been further from the truth” Bette said with a smile.

    1. That was truly funny. Alice and Megan provided humor and then Bette and Shane added to that with the fly catching exercise. Even Kit got into the game while learning how to use the chop stickes. Then there is Tina all calm and collected. Is dinner served yet?

    2. LMAOOO Wash On, Wash Off! Excellent piece of writing, providing laughs and fun at just the right places. I think this was much more than just a filler, and looking forward to more. PPS

    3. Good that B&T are ok. That was so funny and cute. Only Bette Porter can do everything, she have a lot of talents. I gonna get my chopsticks to catch a fly just like Bette lol. The Karate Kid moive is good. Anyway please post soon, thanks!

    4. Ok, I’m in for a dinner but I need to see the original list of requirements to ensure your compliance! LOL. Plus, I’ll have to add a few of my own…

    5. ROFLMAO…!!!!!!!!! I would have imagined anything but that!… You keep surprising me everytime! Only one Bette Porter could possess the talent of a karate master! LOL!… Nice K, very nice!!! And thanks by the way, once again you proved yourself with CLASS!!!

    6. BEGINNER LUCK !!! Wow, this was absolutely hilarious, Miss K. In fact, you know what ? Chopsticks do remind me of “The karate kid” too. It seems we all have the same cultural references, eh ? Well, I’m glad you didn’t have to use that other quote from the movie ” wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off ” though. And this will be your bext challenge ! Just kidding, just kidding, don’t worry. LOL !! Anyway, back to the “real” challenge… Well, I hope you don’t consider your “mission” to be accomplished, eh ? I mean, this was hardly a “romantic dinner”, now was it ? I mean, ” hello ! ” Alice was there !!! I understand that people may have different concept of “romantic”, but only to some extent, right ? LOL !! Well, I have to run since I’m supposed to work ( not everybody is off today. Lol !!! ) but hopefully I’ll be able to comment further later. This was great, K, and your protagonists did make progress toward the “goal”. It wasn’t just a filler as you said. I loved it.

    7. This scenario has so much potential. It’s great to see B/T in different roles. Loved the inside “Karate Kid” reference. Thanks for writing!

    8. They are so f-ing cute together ;) B&T I mean, maybe Alice will start to see them as real people with feelings instead of a story she has to get at any cost. Hopefully they will get to know each other a little better after the concert so they cam get on with the romance.
