Music to my Ears (Chap 5)

“Are you sure you don’t need any help?” Kit asked for the hundredth time.

“No Kit, I’m fine” Tina yelled back with a slight giggle in her voice.

“Well…fine…um…does someone want to teach me how to use these things then while we wait?” Kit said turning back to the table and picking up a set of chop sticks.

“Sure” Meghan said eagerly “just hold them between your fingers like this…and…” Meghan did her best demonstrating the proper way of using the tools causing the whole table to erupt into laughter again.

“Well if you must know, chopsticks always reminds me of the Karate Kid” Bette said slumping back into her chair.

“Why is that?” Kit asked of her younger sister.

“Oh come on you know” Bette said sitting up again and holding out her chopsticks in her fingers and waving them around a little.

“Oh yeah! With practice you will be able to catch a fly or something like that” Shane added picking up her sticks.

“That’s right little grasshopper” Bette said snapping at the air with her sticks causing the table to begin laughing hysterically again at her imitation.

Now everyone around the table had their chopsticks up in the air, pretending to grab at invisible flies that few into their air space.

But suddenly the whole table was silenced for when Bette let out a frightful scream. “OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!”

“What? What’s wrong?!” Tina asked running out from the kitchen.

“I caught one!” Bette yelled standing up from the table and holding out her chopsticks with a definite black bug caught between the end of them.

“AHHHH” yelled at the rest of the table as they all jumped up from their seats.

“Oh my gosh, what am I suppose to do?” asked Bette frantically as she waved the dead fly around the group.

“I don’t know! Throw it out!” yelled Alice as she hit Bette’s hand away from her face causing her to swing towards Shane.

“Well get it away from me!” Shane yelled jumping back a little.

“Hang on, hang on” Tina said rushing up to Bette and grabbing her hand stilling her motions. “Let me have that” she said softly as she slide her hand over Bette’s and slowly took the chopsticks out of her hand. Tina quickly cupped the end of the chopsticks with a napkin and disposed of the fly within the kitchen.

“Oh wow, now that was impressive” Meghan said her mouth wide open staring at Bette.

“Well what can I say? I’m a woman of many talents” Bette laughed as she gingerly eased herself back down in her seat a little shaken up by her small fly-catching ordeal.

    1. That was truly funny. Alice and Megan provided humor and then Bette and Shane added to that with the fly catching exercise. Even Kit got into the game while learning how to use the chop stickes. Then there is Tina all calm and collected. Is dinner served yet?

    2. LMAOOO Wash On, Wash Off! Excellent piece of writing, providing laughs and fun at just the right places. I think this was much more than just a filler, and looking forward to more. PPS

    3. Good that B&T are ok. That was so funny and cute. Only Bette Porter can do everything, she have a lot of talents. I gonna get my chopsticks to catch a fly just like Bette lol. The Karate Kid moive is good. Anyway please post soon, thanks!

    4. Ok, I’m in for a dinner but I need to see the original list of requirements to ensure your compliance! LOL. Plus, I’ll have to add a few of my own…

    5. ROFLMAO…!!!!!!!!! I would have imagined anything but that!… You keep surprising me everytime! Only one Bette Porter could possess the talent of a karate master! LOL!… Nice K, very nice!!! And thanks by the way, once again you proved yourself with CLASS!!!

    6. BEGINNER LUCK !!! Wow, this was absolutely hilarious, Miss K. In fact, you know what ? Chopsticks do remind me of “The karate kid” too. It seems we all have the same cultural references, eh ? Well, I’m glad you didn’t have to use that other quote from the movie ” wax on, wax off, wax on, wax off ” though. And this will be your bext challenge ! Just kidding, just kidding, don’t worry. LOL !! Anyway, back to the “real” challenge… Well, I hope you don’t consider your “mission” to be accomplished, eh ? I mean, this was hardly a “romantic dinner”, now was it ? I mean, ” hello ! ” Alice was there !!! I understand that people may have different concept of “romantic”, but only to some extent, right ? LOL !! Well, I have to run since I’m supposed to work ( not everybody is off today. Lol !!! ) but hopefully I’ll be able to comment further later. This was great, K, and your protagonists did make progress toward the “goal”. It wasn’t just a filler as you said. I loved it.

    7. This scenario has so much potential. It’s great to see B/T in different roles. Loved the inside “Karate Kid” reference. Thanks for writing!

    8. They are so f-ing cute together ;) B&T I mean, maybe Alice will start to see them as real people with feelings instead of a story she has to get at any cost. Hopefully they will get to know each other a little better after the concert so they cam get on with the romance.
