Jake – hey mum I missed you

Alice – I missed you too honey, you have a good time

Jake – it was great mum, we went fishing and swimming and made a fire and went in a boat it was so cool

Will came through the door laden down with bags and looking totally exhausted.

Alice – hey you, you have fun

Will – yeah great, it wasn’t that bad actually and Jake loved it, I am tired though and I desperately need a bath

Alice – ok, oh by the way the bags in your room are Lucy’s she arrived in the week

Will – Lucy? Wow that’s great

Alice – don’t worry about her stuff I’ll get it later she can stay in my room with me

Jake – cool is aunty Lucy here, where is she?

Alice – she’s just popped down to the store, she’ll be back in a minute, you hungry Jake?

Jake – yeah im starving

Alice – well lets sort your stuff out while your dad has a bath and then we will have some dinner ok

Jake – ok

Lucy came back from the store, Will had showered and the family sat around the table chatting laughing and eating their dinner.  Jake was so excited and was trying so hard to tell his mum every little detail about his trip.  Alice sat and smiled at her son, he waved his arms around and scrunched his nose, whilst telling her of his adventures, he got up twice running round the table to show everybody the scrape on his knee and bruise on his arm where he fell off his bike.  After dinner the sat and talked some more, Jake sat next to him mum and snuggled into her side, he slowly fell asleep with his head rested in Alices lap, whilst Alice played absentmindedly with jakes hair.  When Alice was sure he was asleep she picked up her sleeping son and carried him to his bed.

When she returned to the sitting room Lucy passed her another glass of wine and patted the sofa for Alice to sit down next to her.
