Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

Bette exhaled loudly, a smile gracing her lips. That’s all she needed to know. “Thanks Sammy..”

“Anything to make you feel better buddy. Hey, don’t hang up okay? I want to keep talking to you until you think you’re in someplace you at least recognize..”

    “Okay,” Bette nodded. “But why?”

“So you’ll have some company and also for us to know you’re safe.”

Bette smiled. She really didn’t deserve her friends. “Aw, aren’t you sweet?” She gushed exaggeratedly. “I can’t say it enough, but thanks Sammy..”

    “Don’t mention it.”

“If I can’t make it in time for brunch, can you save me some dessert?”

“Sure, I’ll just make sure that-” Sam paused and spanked Alice’s hand away from touching the cream puffs on the table. “You can have the cake, the cream puffs are for Bette.” She told the blonde.

“Al?” Bette guessed, hearing a loud whine in the background.

    “Who else?”

“Tell her if she touches it, I’ll cook her dinner for a whole week.” Bette smirked. Burn every dish to a crisp, subject the blonde to an upset stomach and expose her to carcinogens at the same time. Something that always go hand in hand with her cooking.

Obediently, Sam relayed the message to a still whining Alice – and like a whip to the body, it effectively shushed the girl and got her to eat the chocolate cake instead of Bette’s cream puffs.

Bette was barely fifteen minutes away from where she had turned the car around when she felt a sudden jolt. “Fuck..” She cursed, frowning.

“What’s wrong?” Sam was quick to ask, knowing something was amiss from Bette’s tone.

“I dunno, the car’s acting up..” Bette answered, struggling to control the vehicle as the steering wheel started to tremble and jerk, as if she was driving through a rough terrain and not a smooth paved road. Thankfully, she managed to stop and pull up by the side of the road before she lost control completely.

    “Did it overheat?”

“I don’t think so..” Bette killed the engine and turned on the hazard lights. She put her mobile in her pocket so she could continue talking to Sam on the earpiece while she exited the car to check under the hood. “Nope, it’s not the engine.” She concluded after taking a good look at the machine. Everything looked in order. Must be one of the tires then.. she went around the vehicle to check.. “Aw, shit..”

    1. My eyes bulge out of their sockets…WOW…54 pages. Wow, I can only bow in admiration. Thank you. On the story, both are having a hellion on the break time, man I am having a hellion on the break time and not even part of the story. I guess we havnet seen the last of the wannabe musician back. What happens next? ;)

    2. thanks alch…another brilliant update and i actually took a bathroom break just like you said lol. i’m just afraid that since this is a long update it might take you longer to write the next? hope not, looking forward to it.

    3. wow..that was epic! But well worth the read…thank you for that ray of sunlight by way of Bette’s memory…and of course for the multitude of “..” this was a good one..

    4. I did a little happy dance when I saw your post! I have to say the chapters were a little short…LMAO! Such a gut wrenching time for B & T. Beautifully written!

    5. Thank you Alchy for such a wonderful and long read! You did a great job of weaving the scenes together. I love the Tina-Ken teasing, Bette – Sonja “recovery/addiction” moment, 3-step recovery for Tina, Sam/Bette’s conversation and the Tibette car. So very, very, very clever!!!! Ok…I sense that “Keith Arden” is somehow connected to a certain “Kate Arden.” Hm…looks like a black cloud on the Tibette reunion horizon. But…I cling to the hope that Ken’s almost secret sharing of perhaps an engagement is in the future. You know that small ray of hope is what is bringing your readers back!!!!! Get some rest Alchy…get your creative juices a break but come back real soon…we need our Alchy fix!

    6. Your story always satisfies, Alchemy. You get some of everything in here, and it’s all fab. I loved this chapter. Here’s hoping that Tina can stick to #3 on her list, and I hope Bette can do the same. Great, great update, Alchemy. Thank you! :)

    7. Brilliant chapter Alchemy – you always take such care with detail, emotion, characterization – amazing ;-) As someone said abt the previous chapter – one thing Bette still needs to learn is how to take Tina off that pedestal and treat her like an equal. Relationships mean sharing – both good things and bad – IMO that’s the biggest repair they need, the only truly important one. I loved seeing Tina & Ken again – what a great father daughter dynamic they have. I see Tina is still eating her pain, haha! The flashback was great and so was the bittersweet ending.
