Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen (based loosely on HYD: Returns)
“You want to have kids?” Ken looked at his daughter in surprise, stealing a few more pieces of Cheetos from her.
“Of course I do!”
“How many?”
“I dunno, one.. two. Maybe three.”
“I see.” Ken gave a nod, pursing his lips. He looked at his daughter sideways. “With Bette?”
“Of course! Who el–” Tina paused. She looked at her father – and the silly grin he wore. Dammit, she walked right into that trap, didn’t she? Crap. “I hate you.”
“I thought you were channeling all your hate towards Bette?”
“I hate her too.”
“Mm-hmm.” Ken nodded, doubtful. “How much do you hate her?”
“As much as I hate Aunt Mimi’s yearly standard birthday gift of crocheted underwear.”
“Ooh.. that’s a lot of hate..” Ken whistled.
“You’ve got that right.” Tina mumbled, neurotically nibbling on a Cheeto like a rabbit would do a carrot.
Ken studied his daughter’s face intently, still unconvinced. This one always had the tendency of saying things that couldn’t be farther from what she really felt. Testing a theory, he reached for the framed picture of Bette on the coffee table and took the photo out of the wooden frame. It was a stolen shot from their trip to Paris, Tina’s favorite candid picture of the brunette. With his free hand, Ken grabbed a fountain pen. “So if I punch holes on this picture, you won’t get mad?”
“Nope..”
“Really?” Ken asked, bringing the tip of the pen a centimeter away from Bette’s brown eye.
“Really.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positively sure.” Tina’s poker face projected a brave front, despite the fact that her hand was now crushing the Cheetos in the bag with her death grip.
“Okay then..” Ken shrugged, lifting the pen and aiming it at Bette’s smiling face. So maybe he was wrong after all.
“STOP!” Tina shrieked, grabbing a firm hold of Ken’s wrist before he plunged the pen deep into Bette’s eye. She snatched the pen hurriedly from the man and threw it back on the coffee table. When her mind started working once more and she realized just what she done, she looked at her father and hid a grimace at the triumphant and all-knowing grin plastered there. “Don’t look at me like that. I uh.. I was only saving a perfectly good pen from being destroyed on a stupid picture of an extremely stupid Porter. It would’ve been a waste!” She tried to reason out, though quite unconvincingly.

My eyes bulge out of their sockets…WOW…54 pages. Wow, I can only bow in admiration. Thank you. On the story, both are having a hellion on the break time, man I am having a hellion on the break time and not even part of the story. I guess we havnet seen the last of the wannabe musician back. What happens next? ;)
thanks alch…another brilliant update and i actually took a bathroom break just like you said lol. i’m just afraid that since this is a long update it might take you longer to write the next? hope not, looking forward to it.
You made me so happy on a Monday morning! That was a hard feat for anybody else but you’vr done it! :) Onto the next chapter… Thanks!
Close to 15 and 3/4 LOL. That was a beauty of a car. I love toblerone! Now I must move on to the next post. Thanks alch.
wow..that was epic! But well worth the read…thank you for that ray of sunlight by way of Bette’s memory…and of course for the multitude of “..” this was a good one..
I did a little happy dance when I saw your post! I have to say the chapters were a little short…LMAO! Such a gut wrenching time for B & T. Beautifully written!
Great chapter!Now I think I’ll start loving Mondays:)Thank you for a fabulous update.:D
Thank you Alchy for such a wonderful and long read! You did a great job of weaving the scenes together. I love the Tina-Ken teasing, Bette – Sonja “recovery/addiction” moment, 3-step recovery for Tina, Sam/Bette’s conversation and the Tibette car. So very, very, very clever!!!! Ok…I sense that “Keith Arden” is somehow connected to a certain “Kate Arden.” Hm…looks like a black cloud on the Tibette reunion horizon. But…I cling to the hope that Ken’s almost secret sharing of perhaps an engagement is in the future. You know that small ray of hope is what is bringing your readers back!!!!! Get some rest Alchy…get your creative juices a break but come back real soon…we need our Alchy fix!
Wow that was great! Excuse me while I read the next part. I will say your bette is soooooo sweet
Your story always satisfies, Alchemy. You get some of everything in here, and it’s all fab. I loved this chapter. Here’s hoping that Tina can stick to #3 on her list, and I hope Bette can do the same. Great, great update, Alchemy. Thank you! :)
Brilliant chapter Alchemy – you always take such care with detail, emotion, characterization – amazing ;-) As someone said abt the previous chapter – one thing Bette still needs to learn is how to take Tina off that pedestal and treat her like an equal. Relationships mean sharing – both good things and bad – IMO that’s the biggest repair they need, the only truly important one. I loved seeing Tina & Ken again – what a great father daughter dynamic they have. I see Tina is still eating her pain, haha! The flashback was great and so was the bittersweet ending.
That was awesome, love seeing Ken and Tina together again.
