Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

“Really?” He asked, his tone back to carrying its original boy-like qualities in terms of excitement and glee.

“Really.” Tina smiled. “I’ll answer every single one of your questions. I bet there’ll come a time when you’d be begging me to stop calling cause you’ll be sick and tired of hearing about my boring life.”

“Highly unlikely.” Ken disagreed, his face all smiles. “You know that as your father, my very existence revolves around you..” He winked and nudged, eliciting a laugh from his only child.

“That’s not healthy daddy. You should get a girlfriend.”

“But I do have a girlfriend!” Ken reminded.

Tina floored the grinning man with a look. “Your plasma TV doesn’t make a good lover..”

“Could’ve fooled me. That lovely lady has been faithful to me all these years,” He swooned with the silliest grin, picturing his nighttime companion in his mind’s eye. Technology’s finest, 24 inches of plasma goodness in his living room. “Besides, she’s easy on the eyes.” He chuckled at his own joke.

“Seriously, old man.” Tina shook her pretty head in disbelief.

“Aw, c’mon, lighten up.” Ken pinched his daughter’s chubby cheek again, an action that earned his hand a nice, firm swat. “Hey, do me a favor will ya, sweetheart? Call up my cell phone, I want to test something..”

    “What?”

“Be an obedient child for a change and do what your father asks of you without questioning things like a five year old kid.” Ken chided with a mischievous smirk, garnering a mock scowl from the girl.

Tina squinted her eyes and looked at the man curiously, but did as she was told. Pressing the necessary buttons on her mobile, she brought it to her ear the moment it started connecting. The first ring hadn’t even finished yet when Ken answered the call.

“Ken Kennard.” The older man said, speaking into his mobile as if his caller was not there beside him, looking at him with furrowed brows.

    “Daddy?”

“Oh hello there sweetheart! I can’t believe you called!” Ken gushed, making Tina chuckle against her will. “So?”

“So?” Tina repeated, staring weirdly at the odd man that was very much her flesh and blood.

    “You called me.”

    “I did.”

“So.. aren’t you gonna tell me about what’s been happening in your life like you promised a while ago?”

    1. My eyes bulge out of their sockets…WOW…54 pages. Wow, I can only bow in admiration. Thank you. On the story, both are having a hellion on the break time, man I am having a hellion on the break time and not even part of the story. I guess we havnet seen the last of the wannabe musician back. What happens next? ;)

    2. thanks alch…another brilliant update and i actually took a bathroom break just like you said lol. i’m just afraid that since this is a long update it might take you longer to write the next? hope not, looking forward to it.

    3. wow..that was epic! But well worth the read…thank you for that ray of sunlight by way of Bette’s memory…and of course for the multitude of “..” this was a good one..

    4. I did a little happy dance when I saw your post! I have to say the chapters were a little short…LMAO! Such a gut wrenching time for B & T. Beautifully written!

    5. Thank you Alchy for such a wonderful and long read! You did a great job of weaving the scenes together. I love the Tina-Ken teasing, Bette – Sonja “recovery/addiction” moment, 3-step recovery for Tina, Sam/Bette’s conversation and the Tibette car. So very, very, very clever!!!! Ok…I sense that “Keith Arden” is somehow connected to a certain “Kate Arden.” Hm…looks like a black cloud on the Tibette reunion horizon. But…I cling to the hope that Ken’s almost secret sharing of perhaps an engagement is in the future. You know that small ray of hope is what is bringing your readers back!!!!! Get some rest Alchy…get your creative juices a break but come back real soon…we need our Alchy fix!

    6. Your story always satisfies, Alchemy. You get some of everything in here, and it’s all fab. I loved this chapter. Here’s hoping that Tina can stick to #3 on her list, and I hope Bette can do the same. Great, great update, Alchemy. Thank you! :)

    7. Brilliant chapter Alchemy – you always take such care with detail, emotion, characterization – amazing ;-) As someone said abt the previous chapter – one thing Bette still needs to learn is how to take Tina off that pedestal and treat her like an equal. Relationships mean sharing – both good things and bad – IMO that’s the biggest repair they need, the only truly important one. I loved seeing Tina & Ken again – what a great father daughter dynamic they have. I see Tina is still eating her pain, haha! The flashback was great and so was the bittersweet ending.
