Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

“You visit gossip websites just to read about me and Bette?!” Tina raised her voice, disbelief and disappointment in her tone. In all honesty, she didn’t find those sites bothersome when she was still a naïve high school student at Redwind; well, that is until they started spinning lies and intrigues about her and the lives of people she cared about – Shane, Alice, Sam, Dana, Helena and of course, Bette. It used to frustrate her to no apparent end, but upon following Bette’s advice, she stopped reading those blogs and letting those sites bother her. She still hated them with a passion though, so the mere fact that her dad was a supporter of such blogs was seen as a betrayal of sorts by the young Kennard. “Daddy, you know better!” Tina reproached the older man.

“Well, if you visited me often or called me more than once every two weeks, maybe I wouldn’t have a reason to read gossip sites just to hear about what’s happening in my daughter’s life!” Ken defended himself, letting facets of his sadness and loneliness show. Someone please tell him again why he had wanted his daughter to study in an Ivy League university when most of those schools were so far away? Maybe he should have encouraged Tina’s childhood ambition of being an expert couch potato, at least that profession would have kept him close to his precious daughter forever.

Once again, silence descended inside the noisy truck – with both parties mulling in their seats and feeling equally as lousy for their respective outbursts.

“I’m sorry daddy..” The daughter was first to apologize, knowing she was on the wrong for the crappy way she took her father for granted in the recent months.

Ken sighed. “I’m sorry too.” He reached a hand out and ruffled Tina’s hair affectionately. “I’ll erase the link from my bookmarks bar, I swear.” He said in all seriousness.

Tina had to chuckle at this. “You probably have the website’s url memorized..”

    “No I don’t..”

The young lady arched an unbelieving eyebrow. “Oh, is perezhilton.com that hard to remember?”

    “A little?” Ken smiled sheepishly.

“Ah daddy,” Tina shook her blonde head. “Tell you what, from now on, if you want to hear what’s happening in my life, all you have to do is pick up your phone every night. I promise to call you every day for updates.”

    1. My eyes bulge out of their sockets…WOW…54 pages. Wow, I can only bow in admiration. Thank you. On the story, both are having a hellion on the break time, man I am having a hellion on the break time and not even part of the story. I guess we havnet seen the last of the wannabe musician back. What happens next? ;)

    2. thanks alch…another brilliant update and i actually took a bathroom break just like you said lol. i’m just afraid that since this is a long update it might take you longer to write the next? hope not, looking forward to it.

    3. wow..that was epic! But well worth the read…thank you for that ray of sunlight by way of Bette’s memory…and of course for the multitude of “..” this was a good one..

    4. I did a little happy dance when I saw your post! I have to say the chapters were a little short…LMAO! Such a gut wrenching time for B & T. Beautifully written!

    5. Thank you Alchy for such a wonderful and long read! You did a great job of weaving the scenes together. I love the Tina-Ken teasing, Bette – Sonja “recovery/addiction” moment, 3-step recovery for Tina, Sam/Bette’s conversation and the Tibette car. So very, very, very clever!!!! Ok…I sense that “Keith Arden” is somehow connected to a certain “Kate Arden.” Hm…looks like a black cloud on the Tibette reunion horizon. But…I cling to the hope that Ken’s almost secret sharing of perhaps an engagement is in the future. You know that small ray of hope is what is bringing your readers back!!!!! Get some rest Alchy…get your creative juices a break but come back real soon…we need our Alchy fix!

    6. Your story always satisfies, Alchemy. You get some of everything in here, and it’s all fab. I loved this chapter. Here’s hoping that Tina can stick to #3 on her list, and I hope Bette can do the same. Great, great update, Alchemy. Thank you! :)

    7. Brilliant chapter Alchemy – you always take such care with detail, emotion, characterization – amazing ;-) As someone said abt the previous chapter – one thing Bette still needs to learn is how to take Tina off that pedestal and treat her like an equal. Relationships mean sharing – both good things and bad – IMO that’s the biggest repair they need, the only truly important one. I loved seeing Tina & Ken again – what a great father daughter dynamic they have. I see Tina is still eating her pain, haha! The flashback was great and so was the bittersweet ending.
