Journey to Discovery and Recovery – Chapter 45
“OK mother, I won’t mention it until you’ve talked to him. Have you thought about where you’d like to live once you return to the states?”
“Well I’d always just assumed that I’d move to Connecticut near Greg and Cole but of course that might change now with you living in New York. What part of the city do you live in?”
“We lease a three bedroom loft in Tribeca. It’s in lower Manhattan.”
“Is that where you’ve decided to settle?”
“It’s temporary but convenient for now. Tina is finishing her PhD in Social Services at Columbia University. Angie attends one of the premier private learning academies in New York State. She started there when she turned three and they will take her through the 5th grade should we decide to stay in Manhattan. My art gallery is located in Chelsea so it’s a short commute.”
“Greg tells me you are very successful and well-known in the art world.”
“I’ve been very fortunate. My gallery focuses on emerging artists. We’ve uncovered some incredible talent.”
“Do you paint? I seem to remember us painting together.” Maxine asked remembering bits and pieces of their relationship, as she learned about her daughter’s life.
“It’s one of my fondest memories as a child with you. Do you remember us rolling around on the canvas and making a mess?”
“That’s right. We did body art and I would sign the canvas Elizabeth and Maxine encased in a heart.”
“That’s where the idea for the heart necklace came from. You said in your letter to me that ‘the necklace was symbolic of a shared memory of our times together in the art studio …”
“… But now it holds a promise; that the two halves will someday be reunited and our broken heart will once again be whole even if it takes an eternity.”
“You remembered?”
“I remember and believe me when I say that leaving you was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life Elizabeth. The night I wrote that letter I went into your bedroom while you were sleeping. I told you that I had to go away for a while but I promised you that I would be back. Afterwards I went up to my studio and cried for hours. I went through everything in your memory chest then I sat down to compose the letter. My heart broke into pieces with every stroke of the pen. I prayed that I was making the right decision. When I left abandonment was the furthest thing from my mind. It was never about that. I never meant to sacrifice you to have Greg. I just needed some time away from your father to work things out. Even though he vowed that once I left I would never be allowed to return I swore that I would get you back. I just didn’t know when but I never thought that it would take a lifetime. I never imagined how prophetic that letter would become.”

Enjoyed it a lot. Thanks
Bat you have a way with writing that triggers my heart. I love to read that Maxine is a forgiving person. I’m sure she will be able to convince Bette to look differently at Helena. And I have a feeling that Angelica has a important part to play. Thanks for this update. You’re a gifted writer.
Thank you BAT for this continuing story.
Your superb writing takes me quickly from tears to laughter and then back again and I love the ride :-)
Great update. I hope Greg doesn’t resent Bette when more is revealed to him. Loving this story and the long, detailed chapters.
I’m back! Told you I would awake for nightly run and I did at 1:46 am! Just finished reading this amazing chapter. Now, I’m back off to sleep cause it feels like I’ve being run over by a mac truck. Looking forward to another amazing chapter later today. Be Blessed! PPS
Bat, thanks so much for bringing back this wonderful story. I’ve not made comments for fear I would say something that would give away things that I shouldn’t but please know that I am reading every word. Have really enjoyed reading these last few chapters with my box of tissues near. Loved these chapters. Thanks again for sharing. Can hardly wait. Lol
BAT I’m a little scared. Something is not sitting right with Peter? I’m glad Maxine has decided to come back to the U.S. Now with of this goin on do we see Greg changing his mind and starting a family of his own?
I finally catched up with this incredible story!
The reunion was everything i expected to be. Maxime sounds as a very remarkeble woman, loving, kind, forgiving and truly loves her children.
It will be hard for Greg to hear about why she left and under what circumstances he was concieved, but i can’t believe that the relationship between him and Bette will change, they were all victims due to that horrible man Melvin. Offcourse it will be a very big shock, but at least he grew up with all the love Maxime could give him, something Bette was denied.
Truly enjoyed the last chapters! Thank you!
Wanting to go to the states is going to be life altering for MAXINE because she left under extreme circumstances yet it would be best if she was closer to her children. Not knowing who or why someone wanted her dead is another problem.Telling KIT she had regrets shows compassion for the hurt she caused.Letting everyone know about the rape(s)will be hard especially for GREG ,being a child concieved from that will be tougher on him i imagined.thanks
Bette is in the clouds to have their mother back.
Maxine and looks like it will be a great grandmother to Angie.
Thank you for this excellent story.
And my excuse for delaying this reading,
do everything possible to upgrade.
The complete constellation.
Bear hug.
