Journey to Discovery and Recovery – Chapter 45
Bette was ecstatic at Maxine’s pronouncement that she wanted to return to the U.S. It was her hope that her mother would choose to move back, but she didn’t expect that it would be so soon. Had she not wanted to return Bette was set to make the frequent trips to Canada. Now that she’d found her mother she wanted to keep the close proximity so they could get to know each other again. Bette also wanted Angie to spend as much time with her grandma-Max as she did with grandma-Peggy.
“Mom are you sure this is what you want?”
“I’m positive sweetheart. I hadn’t talked to Greg or Cole about it yet but it’s not a spur of the moment decision. It’s been on my mind for quite some time.”
“What made you decide to go back now after all these years?”
“Mortality I suppose. I’m getting on in age. I don’t remember my date of birth but I’m pretty sure I’m in my mid-seventies. I don’t have work to occupy my time anymore. It gets pretty lonely being in this big house all by myself. Mostly I missed my boys. Even though they visit often I’ve been lonely for them.”
“Do you have any companionship? Greg said you didn’t date a lot when he was young.”
“I dated occasionally but never anything long term. Considering my condition and not even knowing my marital status I was a bit weary of getting involved with someone that I couldn’t give myself to fully. Once Greg went off to college I did get out more. I’ve made a few good friends but no one special. I have my women’s church group. I do volunteer work for several charities. I’m involved in community service. I try to stay active. I’ve had a good life here Elizabeth but it’s time to go home to be with my family.”
“Mother I couldn’t be happier about this but what about Greg. I don’t want him to feel that you’re favoring me over him by wanting to move back to the United States when in the past he couldn’t persuade you to even visit.”
“It might appear to Greg as if I’m doing it because of you Elizabeth. Having you back is certainly an important part of my decision. We’ve been apart for 35 years and no amount of visits will make up for that but I’m doing it just as much for my son. Greg will not begrudge me wanting to enjoy as much time with my children and grandchildren as possible instead of wasting away in this house thousands of miles away from all of you. As I mentioned before it’s something I already had in mind to talk to Greg about even before you and I found each other again. I know he was disappointed that I never agreed to visit him and Cole in Connecticut especially since I didn’t give him any reason. I think now that he knows about the amnesia and my fears he’ll understand why I was paralyzed to make the move before now. Just give me a chance to talk to him first before you say anything. I think he will be just as happy to have me there.”

Enjoyed it a lot. Thanks
Bat you have a way with writing that triggers my heart. I love to read that Maxine is a forgiving person. I’m sure she will be able to convince Bette to look differently at Helena. And I have a feeling that Angelica has a important part to play. Thanks for this update. You’re a gifted writer.
Thank you BAT for this continuing story.
Your superb writing takes me quickly from tears to laughter and then back again and I love the ride :-)
Great update. I hope Greg doesn’t resent Bette when more is revealed to him. Loving this story and the long, detailed chapters.
I’m back! Told you I would awake for nightly run and I did at 1:46 am! Just finished reading this amazing chapter. Now, I’m back off to sleep cause it feels like I’ve being run over by a mac truck. Looking forward to another amazing chapter later today. Be Blessed! PPS
Bat, thanks so much for bringing back this wonderful story. I’ve not made comments for fear I would say something that would give away things that I shouldn’t but please know that I am reading every word. Have really enjoyed reading these last few chapters with my box of tissues near. Loved these chapters. Thanks again for sharing. Can hardly wait. Lol
BAT I’m a little scared. Something is not sitting right with Peter? I’m glad Maxine has decided to come back to the U.S. Now with of this goin on do we see Greg changing his mind and starting a family of his own?
I finally catched up with this incredible story!
The reunion was everything i expected to be. Maxime sounds as a very remarkeble woman, loving, kind, forgiving and truly loves her children.
It will be hard for Greg to hear about why she left and under what circumstances he was concieved, but i can’t believe that the relationship between him and Bette will change, they were all victims due to that horrible man Melvin. Offcourse it will be a very big shock, but at least he grew up with all the love Maxime could give him, something Bette was denied.
Truly enjoyed the last chapters! Thank you!
Wanting to go to the states is going to be life altering for MAXINE because she left under extreme circumstances yet it would be best if she was closer to her children. Not knowing who or why someone wanted her dead is another problem.Telling KIT she had regrets shows compassion for the hurt she caused.Letting everyone know about the rape(s)will be hard especially for GREG ,being a child concieved from that will be tougher on him i imagined.thanks
Bette is in the clouds to have their mother back.
Maxine and looks like it will be a great grandmother to Angie.
Thank you for this excellent story.
And my excuse for delaying this reading,
do everything possible to upgrade.
The complete constellation.
Bear hug.
