“Do you want something to drink? Beer? Coffee?”

I knew it sounded childish but I was what I felt like: “Any chance you’ve got hot chocolate?”

“Just a second.”

Shane disappeared into the kitchen. A bit later, I heard the door open and be shut with great force. Shane was leaving the house. She probably didn’t have anything to make hot chocolate and knowing her, she was getting it at the corner shop.

Third Person narrative

Shane was leaving the house and got into her car. The corner shop was closed, she had experienced when she wanted to get something to eat that afternoon.

She drove to the other shop. She had to pass Bettes house and made a quick decision. She stopped her car in front of Bettes house. She got out in fury and was about to ring the doorbell several times without showing any patience when she changed her mind. She would get Bette Porter in a way nastier way.

I was waiting for Shane to get back and I felt completely lost. I loved Bette to pieces, I realized that by then. I was very grateful towards Shane because she didn’t give me the speech about how she had known it all along. All that mattered was that I was deeply and madly in love with Bette and she was playing with my feelings big time.

After ten minutes, Shane was back with a mug of hot chocolate.

“Here you go.”

“Thanks.”

“So, tell me, what’s happened? What’s that bitch done to hurt you so bad?”

“She’s been fooling me around. A while ago, we kissed for the second time. After that, she acted weird. She would avoid me or get very attached to Billy when she saw me. She ignored me, pretended as if I didn’t exist.
At parties she would run away. But other times, she was desperate for me. She said she needed to talk and she told me all kinds of things nobody else knows. It made me feel special. And she would grab me and kiss me so passionately, so wildly, where nobody could hear or see us. And the next time, she was cold again. I never know what to expect.
She saw us yesterday outside the school building, we were holding hands, remember? She thought we were a couple, she ran away. Today, she called me. She agreed we needed to talk, asked me to come over immediately. She even told me she’d get rid of Billy for me, that meant so much to me. I told my father I had to do something for school with Dana and I went off. By the time I got to Bette’s, Billy was there in the door opening. They were making out for everyone to see it. For me to see it. I just… I love her, Shane, I do! And I felt like we had something, she told me so much, we talked so much. And when we kissed, it was heaven.”
