    Tina smiled, taking Bette’s hand in hers and leading her down the hall. “Come on, beautiful.”

    Angelica dropped her head and turned back to her room.

    “Bette … what were you thinking?!” Tina whispered, before turning to Angelica and following the little girl to her room to soothe her.

    Bette had to sigh. ‘Okay, granted I probably wasn’t supposed to voice an honest response, but come on! Uhh I was so close to her … she was smiling, laughing even … and then I screwed it up again. Fuck.’

    While she was still standing out in the hall, she saw Tina walking up to her again. “Why are you still out here? Go in there and make it right! You know she idolizes you. How can you say something like that to her – and you weren’t even joking or anything. What has gotten into you?”

    Bette Porter was lectured by no one. Well, until now. She shrugged her shoulders. “I’m really sorry.” She didn’t feel like she could live up to this role of mother and wife – it was all so much at once, and she found herself saddened by her inabilities. ‘I’ll never figure anything out,’ she thought pessimistically. She figured she should at least try, though, and slowly made her way down the hall and into the little girl’s room. She knocked on the already-opened door. “Hey Angelica.”

    The little girl looked up to her.

    As Bette made her way into the room, she sat on the little bed and sighed. “I’m sorry, kid. I really … I didn’t mean to make you sad.”

    Angelica got up onto her feet, still holding her toy. This woman didn’t sound anything like her mother, and she was confused.

    “Did you … still want to play or something?” Bette asked, completely unaware of how one would go about playing with a child, but she would do it for this sweet little girl. ‘Maybe kids aren’t all bad …’

    Angelica just nodded, holding her toy out to Bette. “You can be she.”

    “Her?” It was only natural for her to specify.

    Angelica smiled. Her mother always corrected her that way, and the familiarity was a comfort. “Her.”

    Once Tina had changed into pajamas and gotten ready for bed, she went back to Angelica’s room to see if she was still upset about her mother’s carelessness.

I’m not a parent but I am an aunt and have gotten myself in trouble more than a few times with the words I’ve chosen to use in front of my precious little niece.     29. Hi Biissexi, Great update as you proved that kids get you into so much trouble. It was adorable to have Bette and Tina cuddling each other at the unwashed dinner plates as these simple moments are what makes life worth living. Then Bette was follish in answering Angelica question truthfully. Tina was tense and mad however Bette managed to dig herself out of this hole by making amends with Angie. It is so cute reading how childish Bette can be and how much she is starting to love this child. Bette retreated to the couch which intrigued Tina. I do hope this pair reunite their spark and have a very eventful evening and night. Perhaps Angie could be at Auntie Kit’s for a sleepover. Just brilliant and cheering me up no end.
