Fa La La La La La La La La
“Thank you Shane. So,” Bette began counting on her fingers. “There’s Tina, me, Angie, Kit, James and his boyfriend, Julia and Anna, Alice and Tasha, Tasha’s friends – let’s say two – friends, Shane, and Shane’s, um, fans – how many do you think?”
“Put 23,” Alice offered.
“Alice!” Shane grumbled.
“So you pick a number.”
“I dunno,” Shane ran her hand through her hair as she thought. “Well, there are the two co-workers from the salon…”
“Probably fans,” Alice interrupted.
Shane ignored the blonde, “Bette, I think five, plus the salon folks.”
“She’s being conservative, Bette.”
Bette looked at Shane for clarification.
“Yeah. Conservatively.”
“Don’t forget Sonny,” Kit reminded as she sat at the table for a few moments. “And Troy, the morning barrista.”
“Troy’s a girl, right Kit?” Alice asked.
“I don’t ask and I don’t care. Troy makes the best espresso around and has a fan club. Troy is good for my business, that’s all that matters to me.”
“How many is that, Bette?” Shane asked.
“Nineteen.”
“Baby sis, that’s good. Nineteen people will make a really nice sound.”
Bette frowned, “Tina says that 30 to 40 showed up in her town. I hope she doesn’t have her hopes that high.”
“Well maybe the flyers will help,” Kit added encouragingly.
“Flyers?”
“Do any of you pay attention when they give you the menus?”
“No one gives us menus, Kit.”
Kit realized that that was true and she got up to retrieve flyers from the host stand. When she came back, she handed one to each of the women. “This is given to each person who gets a menu.”
Bette, Alice and Shane read a green sheet of paper with red lettering and white Christmas images. It invited everyone to join the caroling. Most prominent, though, right at the top in very large letters, was the promise of free hot chocolate and Christmas cookies afterwards at The Planet.
Bette turned her head to look at Kit, “Thank you.”
Kit struggled to not let her eyes tear. Bette was looking at her with adoration and love, the same expression she had had so often when she was young and looked at her older sister and that she still offered Kit every now and then as adults. Kit would have served the carolers Dom Perignon if it got her one of those looks from Bette.

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
