Coming up for air – part forty two

When Tina’s hands reached out and stilled Bette’s fidgeting it was like everything calmed down inside Bette. Tina’s soft eyes looked in Bette’s direction and told her of her insecurities, and the knowledge didn’t upset Bette, it calmed her down. They just had to find each other in the fear of not knowing what was to come. And if they held on to each other and paid attention, then that final step of moving back into the house together would be a step forward, Bette was sure of that.

The rings looked amazing. At Janice’s studio Bette took out the rings, held them up against the light and knew without a shred of doubt that Tina would love them. Bette paid and thanked Janice before making her way home.

It was almost ten o’clock. It had been a long day of hard work, but it had also been a day of hanging out at the house the whole gang. For the first time in what seemed like forever all their friends were gathered at Bette and Tina’s house. It had been customary for so many years, but over the past two years Bette had learned not to take that for granted. Alice’s constant yammering, Dana’s sweet but not always bright comments, Shane’s chosen absent mindedness, along with Tina’s patient almost lenient approach to Alice, it all made Bette’s heart sing. But the rings were burning a whole in Bette’s jeans. She was hoping to avoid actually throwing their friends out, but if it came down to that she would.

Bette was saying goodbye to Alice and Dana at the door. It had taken her twenty minutes to get them to the door. Kit, Shane and Carmen had taken the hint and left almost half an hour ago, but Alice and Dana were happily ignoring Bette’s ill-disguised attempts to get rid of them.
“Don’t push me, Porter…” Alice complained.
“You need a good shove… if you’re ever gonna leave…” Bette smiled while handing Alice her belongings.
“Come on, Al… I think we’ve overstayed our welcome….” Dana tried.
“You’re the worst hostess…. I slaved all day for you and T… and this is the thanks I get…” Alice whined.
“Slaved? I saw you eat a lot of food… and drink all our beers… I don’t know if I would call that slaving for us…”
“How would you know…? You kept leaving when we got to the hard part…”
    “I did not…”
“Did too… running errands in the middle of the move….” Alice said and slumped down in a chair refusing to leave. Dana was standing by with an embarrassed expression on her face.

    1. BBR3… LOL… hey, so you may not be first here… but still you made it before work. I hope you kick Heidi’s ass… and still make it home in one piece.

    2. You didn’t stop there….tell me you didn’t!!!!!! Big tease you are!!! Sweet post….it flowed perfectly and I did notice that Alice is whiny too LOL. So you like to provoke…hmmm….interesting…I’m REALLY looking forward to that hence my name LOL. Sooo good to have you back on the site, you are always missed.

    3. Happy Happy Joy Joy! I’ll have to go tracking you down more often if we’re going to be treated to chapters as fantastic as this! B & T have addressed their fears, and neither of them are unrealistically expecting completely smooth sailing. And they’ve gotten the rings now… they know what’s at stake, and what they want, and I don’t think they’ll risk losing each other in such a spectacularly painful way again. Even if this chapter didn’t come to you as quickly as a cheetah on an oily chute, you did it perfectly, anker. Thank you for the post!

    4. Oh BTW….thanks for not blaming me for being late, I had expected that LOL. And of course I rememeber our deal…how could I forget, not a chance :o))

    5. First comes love, second comes marriage.. so what are we missing? Ohh yeah, the baby. Can’t wait until that comes around. I think they will be good this time.. because they both know how miserable it would be without the other. Can’t wait for the next installment.

    6. Well look whose back with another chapter. Thank goodness! Good ole Alice can never take a hint, but you’ve got to love her. You have been missed my friend in more ways than one. Thank you for your kind thoughts and words.

    7. WOW! Women im soo glad ur back and yes im still doing the happy dance how can i help it ur a tibetter.great update looking forward for more to come and please do it soon and i can see your still up to your old tricks of being a TEASE!

    8. This flowed nicely. Poor Bette having to get down on her knees to beg Alice to leave so that she could give the ring to Tina was a hot. I can understand the overwhelming fear for both Bette and Tina. Is it going to work this time and can they really live without their soulmate if it does not? I believe that the answer is for them to always try and communicate and don’t give up even when times are difficult.

    9. Glad to see your post! Good to see B & T communicating about their fears for the future and then reassuring one another. I look forward to reading about the readjustment to living back at the house. Thanks for writing!

    10. Anker, I’ve missed this wonderful story and was thrilled to see your post. You were having trouble with this chapter, huh? I can’t even imagine what the writers on this site struggle with to keep a story flowing smoothly. I’m grateful that you toughed it out and were ablte to give us this update. It’s great to have B & T sharing their fears with each other and talking through them. As much as they want to push forward to a new beginning, that nagging thought is always in the back of their mind not to mess up this new chance at happiness. With your talented fingers & creative mind at work on this story, I’m confident that you will give B & T a successful fresh start. Hugs to you. Ciao.

    13. ha-ha who’s the tease? But really really lovely stuff…thank you so much for taking the time…hey look for PM say Thursday my time…This is a real scarey beginning for them, but its great they r living 2gether at last…love them…love the story…pleaszzz keep it coming.

    14. Hey anker, Girl you are so bad! I loved this latest chapter. You are true the characters and the interactions between them. There was just so much love between Bette and Tina balanced with their uncertainity of what the best course of action is. You neven know that the decision you have made is the right one until after the event. Hindsight is marvelous but this is a time to take that leap of faith. Good to see the gals talking about their fears instead of bottling them up. Can’t wait to see where it all leads. A happy ever after. I hope. Many thanks for the personal shout out. It made me blush as it is you who puts yourself out there for all to read and enjoy. I raise my hat to you and your wonderful words. Many thanks again, Your Loyal Fan.
