“What’s wrong?” she asked confusedly when Tina didn’t answer. She ran her hand lightly over Tina’s swelling belly. Her brain was still fogged from sleep but her body was quickly waking to a ready state.

“Hormones?” she asked teasingly when the blonde stayed silent. Liz had warned her Tina could slip into unexpected mood swings. Maybe this was one of them?

Tina fixed her with an uncomfortable stare.

“Sorry, baby,” Bette added quickly with a slight yawn.

“Not fair,” Tina started.

“I know. I know. Sorry, T,” Bette cut in, not wanting to start the morning after an amazing night of lovemaking with an argument.

They fell quiet again.

“Sometimes I feel incredibly lucky to have you,” Tina said cryptically, breaking the silence at last, but still not facing Bette. She paused.

“And other times?” Bette prompted her, a warning bell sounded in the back of her mind. Her brain was almost de-fogged now.

“And other times I feel both lucky and afraid,” Tina continued.

“Afraid of?”

“Afraid that I’m married to this amazing, exotic creature that I don’t know how to take care of, but at the same time, am responsible for.”

Bette frowned. What is going on with her?

This time, she carefully rolled over Tina, making sure she rested most of her weight on her arms to avoid crushing the blonde’s belly.

“Responsible for?” she asked, her large brown eyes questioning. “What are you talking about?”

“Peter hasn’t discussed something with you,” Tina started.

Bette frowned again. “But he has with you?” she guessed, quickly reading between the lines.

Can’t deny it now. Tina nodded her head. “When he does, we can talk about it, but I just want you to know I’m supportive, and I’ll be willing to do what it takes to adjust.”

Bette looked at her in silence, and saw that Tina was probably not going to explain much more about whatever it was Peter was going to discuss. She dipped her head and gave Tina a long, probing kiss.

“And what about you, baby? What is it that’s been worrying you that I can be supportive about?” Bette asked softly, trying again to shift the focus back on Tina. “You said you’d tell me when you sorted things out, but it feels like you’ve decided to shelve it. Maybe not to worry me? Especially after all this craziness started?” Her concern was heartfelt.
