Chapter XXIX – Empire State of Mind – Tho’ much is taken, much abides

As she did, she came face to face with Tina, who was walking on her own, now, a doctor by her side.

“Cam?!” Tina asked, shock covering her face.

Miller whipped her head up, and realized too late what had happened.

“Cam Miller, is that you?” Tina asked again, starting to reach out to touch the dark-haired woman who stood rigidly in front of her, frozen in shock as well.

“It is you! It’s me, Tina! Tina Kennard!” Tina repeated, shouting somewhat, exclaiming in total surprise.

Miller hadn’t moved, and instead continued to stare back at Tina, as if mute.

“What’s the matter? You don’t remember me?” Tina asked as she rubbed the woman’s bare arm lightly.

Miller frowned, and responded, “Of course I remember, Tina!”

She recovered her composure. “I … uh …”

Tina laughed lightly and pulled on the arm that she’d rubbed, saying “C’mon, let’s talk here on the side, and let these people get into the elevator!”

After they walked to the picture window of the wall by the elevator banks, Tina shook her head, exclaiming surprise, again at seeing Miller. “I can’t believe I’m running into you like this! Here, of all places!” She drew Miller in for an embrace. Miller returned the hug stiffly.

“I never got to thank you, Cam, for being so instrumental in knocking me to my senses,” Tina started to say, still shaking her head in wonderment. “How have you been? What are you doing here? Are you visiting someone who’s sick?” Tina continued, asking Miller a stream of questions.

What should I tell her? Cam wondered to herself, stumbling over her responses to questions that she could safely answer. Yes, I did get married, but she passed away a few years ago. No, that’s alright. Thanks. We had a good life together. Raised a couple of kids. Uh, huh. One of them is attending Georgetown. I know, I know! Time does fly.

During a pause in the midst of their rapidly warming conversation, Miller carefully placed her hand over Tina’s belly. “May I?”

Tina smiled at her warmly, and drew her arm over Miller’s shoulder, squeezing it slightly. “Of course!”

Miller slipped one arm around Tina’s waist and allowed the other hand to settle over Tina’s stomach. She allowed herself to imagine how Callie must have looked while pregnant. Her eyes took on a tender look as she gazed at Tina’s happy face, serene despite having just survived a sniper’s attack.

My heart sank as I thought Diana would succumbed to death
but fortunately she sobreviveu.Tenho also say that the beginning of
story 15 years later was Great! and then coming back to event
the shooting, phew !! was a sensational chapter.
And congratulations, you wrote this scene NC: 17 Tina and Bette with a
      mastery.
      All Stars.

    2. 10 stars! !!!

Amazing beginning with the look in the future, but you or rather Tina mentioned only Angelica, where is the other child of them? ! Maybe i am too fast and will you get into that in the next chapter.

What a mess, that whole sniper attack, thank god that Diana seems to survive it.

Skydancer, you are a absolute brilliant writer! Thanks for sharing it.

    3. Fantastic to have another post on this story!

Thank you for the look at the future to lessen our worry on the immediate storyline!

      Impatiently waiting for Chapter 30!

    4. Great update. I can sense Miller is going to be trouble for Bette and Tina. In your next update, I hope you answer a question I have about Miller. If Tina originally knew Miller as Georgina Keller, a stock-broker in London, during her university years, how did TIna recognize her as “Cam Miller” in the hospital? I sense another sub-story there.

      • You’re right! (Minx) Answers to these and other ?s shortly when I post the last chapter in a way that I hope puts a neat bow around the whole package.

    5. Happy New Year and welcome back. As always I am intrigued by your storybook. I am glad to see that 15 years later Bette and Tina still carry the fire of love. I know that when they had taken on the welfare of the gold and it would take a toll on them, their family and friends. Did it cost them their child? You only mentioned Angelica in the update. Poor Jackson never seemed to recover. I know that our heroines understood the risk of being guardians but did they realize the heavy cost? Can’t wait for the next update. Thank for continuing to entertain us. We are very grateful that you share your talent with us .
