Chapter XXIII – Empire State of Mind – Will to Power

Bette nodded her agreement, checking her watch. “I’ll see you tonight in The Playroom?”

“Uh huh. I’ll be there by around 10 or so.”

Bette gave her a quick kiss. “Love you, T.”

Tina blew her an air kiss as Bette turned before shutting the door. “Love you more.”

Tina watched Peter push through the doors of the frosted glass-skinned building by the redeveloped water front by the Hudson river, northwest of TribeCa.

He crossed the Westside highway at a crossing light, and started walking north on the jogpath/boardwalk that rimmed the river. Tina tossed the tea she’d been sipping as she started walking slowly north also.  Following Dave’s suggestion, she’d worn a different wig for this one, black, and wrap-around dark glasses.   She glanced up, checking to see if Veronica, who was in a jogging outfit, and stretching about a block away, had seen her start to walk up.  She saw that Veronica did, and had started to slowly start jogging up also.

When Peter neared her, she fell into step, and drew alongside him. She said in a voice loud enough for him to hear, but not enough for the group of people walking behind them, about five feet away, “Peter.  Don’t turn around or look at me.  I’m Tina.  I need to talk to you.”

He nearly stopped walking, clearly surprised, and instinctively half-turned towards her, but caught himself, and then pretended to consult his watch. He slowed from his normally fast walking pace and leaned towards his left, closer to Tina, as if to let the group walking behind them pass him.  After the group drifted further away, more than six feet ahead of them, he answered, loud enough for her to hear, “Alright.  Let’s meet in 20 minutes in Sarabeth’s.  I’ll walk ahead and cross over to the other side of the highway after a block or so.  You cross over when you’re closer to the Chelsea food market.  Ok?”

    “Ok. Thanks.”

He laughed lightly, then pretended to tap on his Bluetooth earpiece, faking a call. “Strangely enough, I knew this would come, at some point. A visit from you.  But I thought that it would be months till then, not weeks after…”

Tina smiled, and said nothing in response.

    2. WOW! is all I can say about this incredible story of intrigue and romance and mystery. Its the book I can’t put down with all that goes on page after page. I’m so loving it with all the characters and the twists and turns in the storyline. Bravo for creating such an incredible story!

    3. OK. first things first. Tina make someone investigate Peter’s medical claim. Make sure the villains have not discovered the fact that Bette’s “redhead” friend has been in two public places at the same time on different ends of New York city. And when it is time to “grab the canned peaches and head for the bomb shelter” team Tibette ensure everybody knows where the two safe havens are located. Things are getting a bit “dicey” Great writing, I love it

    4. Canned peaches — so funny, love it!
