Chapter XXIII – Empire State of Mind – Will to Power

“So this isn’t about money, huh?” Tina asked.

    He shook his head.

“But, Peter, will this be the only way?”

They both looked up at a stern-looking bald man, dressed in a dark suit, despite the hot weather, as he approached their table, and took a seat next to Peter.

Tina gave Peter with a questioning look.

“Tina, Jackson Hunt, my lawyer, but, more importantly, he’s my key adviser.”

Tina eyed the slim leather briefcase he carried as she shook the offered hand.

“She know?” Jackson asked, as he rested the briefcase on his thighs and released the locks by pressing his thumbprint on a reader.

Peter shook his head as he answered Jackson. “Haven’t gotten to that point yet.”

Tina frowned, wondering about the strange turn her meeting with Peter had taken.

“Tina, I’m going to show you my will, and I wanted to explain a few things while I did.”

Jackson gave him the papers he’d extracted from his briefcase.

Peter cleared the table of their drinks, and then fanned the papers Jackson gave him.

He handed Tina a set of papers, explaining, “This part here explains that I’m of sound mind, and that this will was prepared by a firm…”

Jackson cut in, “I oversaw the process.”

Peter continued as he handed her a voluminous set of papers, “And this part lists my assets, as well as various other things I’m wholly or partly invested in.”

Tina saw there were pages and pages of this part. She interrupted him.  “Peter, excuse me, but what are you trying to tell me?”

He licked his lips and handed her a third set of papers, slimmer than the previous one, “This last part explains that I am basically naming Bette as the trustee for a few of the assets, the beneficiary for others, or the executor of some other aspects of the will.”

“WHAT?!” Tina asked, nearly dropping all the papers she now held on the table.

“Bear with me, Tina,” Peter said, as he gripped her shoulder briefly, as if trying to assure her. “The main thing I am doing is naming her foundation, the one through which she courses her donations to other charities to, as the destination for the funds of my charity.”

    2. WOW! is all I can say about this incredible story of intrigue and romance and mystery. Its the book I can’t put down with all that goes on page after page. I’m so loving it with all the characters and the twists and turns in the storyline. Bravo for creating such an incredible story!

    3. OK. first things first. Tina make someone investigate Peter’s medical claim. Make sure the villains have not discovered the fact that Bette’s “redhead” friend has been in two public places at the same time on different ends of New York city. And when it is time to “grab the canned peaches and head for the bomb shelter” team Tibette ensure everybody knows where the two safe havens are located. Things are getting a bit “dicey” Great writing, I love it

    4. Canned peaches — so funny, love it!
