Chapter XXIII – Empire State of Mind – Will to Power
“So you went beyond the nice-looking brochures. I get it. You sure you didn’t try to get any private information?” Tina asked, still reeling.
“I told you, Tina, nothing illegal.”
Tina rubbed her temples. One of Bette’s favorite sayings came to mind.
“Peter, let’s keep it in the moment, as Bette likes to say.”
Peter and Jackson looked at each other.
“I’m sorry I had to run this past you all at once, Tina,” Peter said softly. “But I’m running out of time. And Jackson here came up with the brilliant suggestion of going over things with you before reaching out to Bette. In case you can advise us on how to approach her.”
Tina nodded her understanding, rubbing her eyes absentmindedly as she continued to grapple with the tumult of information from the call and what Peter had just shared with her about his will.
Peter asked with a small smile, “Okay, what do you have in mind?”
“Why?”
“Why Bette?”
“No, why now?”
Jackson, who’d been silent during the conversation about the will, bent over to whisper something to Peter.
Peter shook his head. “No, it’s ok, I’ll tell her.”
“Tell me what?”
Peter blew out a breath, and gathered the papers to form a neat pile between them. After a few minutes he said calmly, “I have a blood condition, Tina. Runs in my mother’s side of the family. But in my case, it’s advanced quickly. Much more quickly than I or my doctors anticipated. And there’s so much to do yet. Including helping Bette see this thing about the gold through.”
Tina reached for his hand sympathetically, and blew out a breath. This was a lot to take in. She decided to give them the advice they were asking from her.
“Peter, Jackson, here’s my advice: don’t play games with her. Just tell her straight-up. And see this whole thing through her eyes. I hope you realize that you’re basically going to change her whole life. Our lives. As I said, there are no half-measures with her. And entrusting her to manage over a billion dollars, maybe $2 billion or more? Or however much is involved here…”
“More,” Jackson interjected.
“… will mean she’ll be giving up everything else, because there simply won’t be enough time for her work, except managing how these funds will be used. I’m guessing she’ll also need to invest enough to consolidate the capital basis for it? Anyway, this’ll be a lot of work for her. And you know her: she’s not going to use any of it for herself. So I don’t know what that will mean for us. Do I have to work more? Supplement our income?”

Thanks! I had a feeling Peter was going to leave Bette in his will! I think the shit is about to hit the fan. PPS
Seems to be coming to a head. Glad Tina is getting more involved. Enjoyed it, thanks
would like to see tom love with bette and bette this sexier than ever.
Wow good chapter now my head is spinning…….Hopefully we see things fall into place? As always keep the Tibette safe.
WOW! is all I can say about this incredible story of intrigue and romance and mystery. Its the book I can’t put down with all that goes on page after page. I’m so loving it with all the characters and the twists and turns in the storyline. Bravo for creating such an incredible story!
OK. first things first. Tina make someone investigate Peter’s medical claim. Make sure the villains have not discovered the fact that Bette’s “redhead” friend has been in two public places at the same time on different ends of New York city. And when it is time to “grab the canned peaches and head for the bomb shelter” team Tibette ensure everybody knows where the two safe havens are located. Things are getting a bit “dicey” Great writing, I love it
Canned peaches — so funny, love it!
