    chapter 17

     

    James knew his boss well and he knew that her bark was worst than her bite. He also knew that when she was in this mood the best thing to do was leave her alone to calm down.

     

    Fifteen minutes after entering her office Bette hears shouting in the hall way and suddenly her door bursts open.

     

     

    “I’m sorry Bette”  James  said apologetically,  “but she wouldn’t take no for an answer”

     

    “It’s ok James, I’ll take it from here” When James left the office she turned to Jodie furiously. “It’s the second time you’ve barged into my office uninvited… what do you want Jodie?”

     

    “I’m ready for you to show me around campus”

     

    “Oh! really ,well I’m afraid it doesn’t work that way”

     

    “Then how does it work? Were you lying when you told Phyllis we could work together?”

     

    “Listen to me Jodie, cut the crap. I don’t know why you are here and I don’t even care. I’m a professional and I take my job seriously and I’m not about to let you jeopardize it. If I have to play nice with you to get the job done, I’ll do it. But make no mistake… I’m not your friend. That coupon expired a couple days ago. All we are, are colleagues. As for showing you around campus, I’ll do it on my time. Now, will you get the hell out of my office?”

     

    Jodie was turning to leave when Bette stopped her. “And one more thing Jodie, I’m your superior and in the future, if you need to see me, make an appointment with James, because the next time you barges into my office unannounced I won’t be responsible for what happens to you.”

     

    After Jodie leaves, Bette calls Tina and gets her voice mail. She hangs up without leaving a message.  Some fucking day, Bette sighs. She picks up her phone and makes another call. “James I’m having a headache, I do not want to be disturbed. Even if it’s the dragon herself, find an excuse. I’m not taking any phone calls and I’m not seeing any visitors…understood?”

     

    “Loud and clear boss”

     

    Meanwhile Tina has just rapped up her meeting; she sees the missed call from Bette and dials her cell. It goes straight to voicemail. She tries again, same thing. Bette must still be in her meeting, okay Tina smiles as a plan forms in her head. Since I’ve finished my meeting so early I’ll just pop over to C U and surprise Bette with lunch…

     

    Bette is in her office, she’s restless, and she grabs her bag and heads for the door. “James I’m going out after all, any one needs me take a message. I need to get away from here for a couple hours, because if I stay here I’m about to go crazy."

    "Where are you heading?"

    "I have no idea"

    1. I had to comment on this one.Tina is on her way to CU and Bette is on her way out. What do you think will be going through Tina’s mind when she gets there and Bette is not there? Will she think Bette blew her off because she had another offer for lunch? Will she catch Bette before she leaves? or will she run into Jodie and Jodie cause some trouble for Bette.Remember Tina cannot reach Bette, she’s not answering her cell.

    6. Dang dragon lady and mean bi**h (jodi) are screwing up Bette’s day. I hope that Bette and Tina are not playing phone tag or tag for that matter with each other (missing each other).

    9. Well, Avant2, we’re expecting you to answer all of those questions! LOL. What I’m hoping is that Tina will meet up with Bette in the parking lot of CU and see how upset Bette is. Maybe she’ll provide a comforting shoulder. PPS

    10. So happy that Bette left a note and did not run out on Tina – talk about keeping us in suspense. But now Jodie – no no no – please let tina and bette run into each other and have romantic time somewhere. Please don’t let Jodie rear her ugly head in all of this – just when this are on track – please make jodie go away. Can’t wait to read more! PPS

    14. I know that sometimes folks need to take breaks (sometimes long ones) from writing. I do hope that your life circumstances allow you to continue with this story. It is very good.
