    chapter 17

    PREVIOUSLY:    Was she in love with Tina?

     

    Bette didn’t stay to figure it out. She gathered her clothes and  looked over at Tina as she slept. It was only the fear of waking her that kept Bette from touching her mouth. It was a pleasure –giving instrument with an uncanny sensitivity to her needs and desires. Even now her stomach experienced that delightful sinking feeling as she recalled the way Tina’s lips and tongue had introduced her body to carnal pleasures.

     

    Bette knew she was being a coward, but she had to leave. Twice in the space of a couple hours was too much for her to handle. She hoped Tina would understand….

     

    Nudged from her sleep by a sound somewhere in the house.  Tina opened her eyes and stared  in mild confusion at the empty pillow beside her. The room was dark and she rolled onto her side squinting at the alarm clock. It was almost six o’clock .She popped on her elbows, surprised that she had slept through the night. For a moment or two , she was perfectly still ,listening ,trying to decide where Bette was, but the first sound she heard was the last one she expected: It came from outdoors___ a car engine firing, motor revving.

     

    For a moment of ignorant bliss ,Tina decided Bette must have gone outside to get something from the car and just decided to start the engine. Tina tossed off the covers and  rolled out of bed. Combing her hand through her hair, she walked to the window and pushed aside the curtain, intending to open the window and shout down to her if she wanted a cup of coffee. –What she saw instead was a pair of red taillights glowing brightly as the Saab  sped down the long drive towards the main street.

     

    Tina was so stunned that her first reaction was to worry that she was driving too damned fast_____and then reality  hit her . She had left! Bette had left!  For a split second her mind couldn’t seem to absorb the shock. She had crawled out of bed and crept off in the wee hours of the morning!.  Swearing under her breath she turned on the lamp and yanked on her robe, then she stood ,hands on hips ,glaring at the empty bed in a state of paralysis. Tina could not believe Bette had run away as if she had done something she was ashamed of and couldn’t bare to face in daylight.

    1. I had to comment on this one.Tina is on her way to CU and Bette is on her way out. What do you think will be going through Tina’s mind when she gets there and Bette is not there? Will she think Bette blew her off because she had another offer for lunch? Will she catch Bette before she leaves? or will she run into Jodie and Jodie cause some trouble for Bette.Remember Tina cannot reach Bette, she’s not answering her cell.

    6. Dang dragon lady and mean bi**h (jodi) are screwing up Bette’s day. I hope that Bette and Tina are not playing phone tag or tag for that matter with each other (missing each other).

    9. Well, Avant2, we’re expecting you to answer all of those questions! LOL. What I’m hoping is that Tina will meet up with Bette in the parking lot of CU and see how upset Bette is. Maybe she’ll provide a comforting shoulder. PPS

    10. So happy that Bette left a note and did not run out on Tina – talk about keeping us in suspense. But now Jodie – no no no – please let tina and bette run into each other and have romantic time somewhere. Please don’t let Jodie rear her ugly head in all of this – just when this are on track – please make jodie go away. Can’t wait to read more! PPS

    14. I know that sometimes folks need to take breaks (sometimes long ones) from writing. I do hope that your life circumstances allow you to continue with this story. It is very good.
