Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 20
“Whatever, it’s not a problem.”
“Turn off the engine and come inside Al I have a plan,” Dana said bounding out of the car and up the steps, leaving the front door open for Alice to follow.
Alice just shook her head and followed her friend into the condo.
“I don’t think 10 o’clock on a Friday night is the time to get your Fung shway on Dane,” Alice said as she watched Dana move her coffee table and couch creating a big open space in front of the tv.
Dana didn’t reply. Instead she pulled out a huge travel cd case flipping through it until she found what she was looking for and popping it into her stereo. Soon Frank Sinatra fill the apartment.
“Old blue eyes huh,” Alice said. “I never knew you were a fan.”
Giving Alice a goofy smile, Dana walked up to her friend, “You all are going to learn the basics of how to dance tonight.”
The blonde’s eyes went wide for a second but soon she was wearing a smile of her own.
As Frank sang about coffee in Brazil (which was Alice’s new favorite song she declared) among other things, Dana patiently helped Alice master the box step before moving into a waltz.
“That’s it,” Dana said approvingly, “Be sure to keep you arms locked so you can feel the pressure as I lead you… There you go…smaller steps”
“How do we spin and stuff like that,” Alice asked once again amazed at her friend’s seemingly endless talents and patience even with her toes getting stepped on.
Chuckling, the brunette led Alice in a spin. And they laughed and danced.
After a few more songs and a ton more instructions and demonstrations, Alice caught the time on Dana’s stereo. “Wow, it’s already one,” Alice said when they took their first break.
“No.. it can’t be,” Dana said only to be proven wrong. Had she really been holding Alice for that long? It seems like they had just started.
“Do you have to be up early to train,” Alice questioned already knowing the answer?
“Yeah,” Dana answered reluctantly. She didn’t want the night to end, but she was meeting up with her trainer at 6am. If it was just a run I could blow it off, Dana thought.
“I better let you get some sleep then,” she said slipping her flip flops back on. Pausing for a second, she tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. “Thanks Dana for…”
“Oh hush with the thanks already. I was doing a public service. I didn’t need you killing anyone with your Elaine dance,” Dana cut in. “Come on I’ll walk you to your car.”
Rolling her eyes with an affectionate smile, Alice followed her friend outside.
After their ritual hour long talk about all things random on the curb by Alice’s car before she left, Alice gave Dana a hug and a kiss on the cheek and got into her car.
As she watched her friend’s car turn off her street, the only thing Dana could think about was how she wished she was the one taking Alice dancing tomorrow night.
Where the fuck did that thought come from?
Oh, fuck.
No.
Taking one last look to in the direction Alice’s car just headed, Dana shook her head going back into her home.
Not smart Fairbanks. Do not fall for her.
Catching sight of a photo of Alice and her on her fridge as she walked in the kitchen, Dana smiled in defeat.
Too late.

The Elaine Dance? Are you talking about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xi4O1yi6b0 ? LOL… I LOVE Elaine… Do you have a picture of Dana teaching Al to dance? Yay for Dana finally realizing what we all knew. I wonder if she is going to do anything about it… I hope that this is the “something” (yes, I happen to agree with Shane, lol) that will motivate Dana to make some steps towards being out. Great update, anionayo! And just in case it wasn’t obvious yet, I really love the story :)
Too Late…I think that is my favorite line of this chapter. I mean drunken pirate is really good. But the other is romantic. Love the story can’t wait for more
The pool scene was a lot of fun. Loved D teaching A how to dance. You are doing a terrific job bringing them together. I have to disagree with AJ. imo, the pace is just right. As a matter of fact, I wish you could go back to their double dating. There had to be at least a couple of laughs. Well done and thank you, anionayo. Looking forward to your next post. p.s. thanks 25justagirl for the link.
Hey… I’ve just got caught up with this story and I’m loving it! It’s great! The way you write their inner turmoil is amazing! Keep up the good work, you have me hooked x
Woo hoo! Now I am glad I had to work stupidly late this evening/morning! Love how you describe Dana at the beginning and all she has to go through and think about to hide her sexuality and all the frustration — so true. Dana’s ongoing reaction to the Lara break-up is very well portrayed, too. “Drunken pirate” — Hee! The interaction between all the girls at the pool was great. Love how Alice could read Dana’s mood. The impromptu dance lesson was genius. “Too late”, indeed. Excellent chapter, anionayo! Oh! And you and AJ better play nice, y’hear? ;-D
Goose you can ref for us because it’s ON there like swimwear! Moving on…Drunken pirate is my kind of something. I’m really enjoying watching how you are building the relationship between Al and Dane…but im just a little impatient. GET IT ON ALREADY! Just playing. thank goodness Dana is realizing she is falling for her bestie, YAY! Thank you so much for another great chapter anionayo.
