Bette lifted her eyes to Tina’s as she had been waiting for Tina to process all she had shared with her tonight.
“Yes baby?”
“I didn’t think it was possible to love someone as much as I did when I met you. I had never experienced that intensity, or depth of feeling before. And when we fell apart, I never knew I could hurt that much and live through it. I didn’t think it would ever be possible to be that in love with you again, after your affair. And I was right. It isn’t possible. I’ll never love you like that again, because you are not that woman any longer.”
Bette’s eyes fill with tears as she hears the words Tina speaks. The pain and the hurt flash through Tina’s expressions as she holds Bette’s gaze. She reaches over and lightly brushes Bette’s tears away as they fall. Bette, still looking into Tina’s eyes, sees the change as Tina continues with tears in her own eyes.
“You have become over the last year, a much stronger woman, more caring, and especially more expressive with your emotions. You are becoming so in touch with who you truly are, where you came from, and where you are going. I have found myself in shock tonight as I listened to you. At how much you have grown and learned, and worked to become who you are. And even more shocked to realize that I have fallen harder, and deeper for you than I did so long ago. I have never been more in love with anyone, including you as I am right now Bette. You are my heart, soul and being. I love you beyond measure.”
Tina leaned in and gently cupped Bette’s tear stained face between her hands. She gently placed her lips over Bette’s and home was the place her heart found. Only this time, their house was made of brick and not straw. And she was infinitely more confident that Bette would guard her heart with all the tools and weapons she could get her hands on.
“I love you Tina. The words are so simple, yet they mean more to me now than ever before.
You will always be where my heart calls home, and I vow to cherish, worship, and honor you each and every day of our lives.”
