“Thank you. I didn’t realize how much I needed you until right this minute.” she sobbed.
“Oh baby. It’s okay, whatever it is, its going to be okay.” Tina said as she soothingly rubbed Bette’s back in circles to calm her.
“Let’s go home. Let me take care of you, I think you need to just be home in my arms.”
“I can’t imagine needing anything more.” a subdued Bette told her.
As night turned into day, Bette was still talking to Tina and telling her of her discoveries about herself over the last two weeks. ” So I guess overall this time apart from my family, as hard as it has been, came out to be a good step towards fixing, and finding myself.” Bette hoped that Tina accepted this statement as a positive step in their “recovery” from their past.
Tina looked at the honesty and vulnerability that Bette had displayed through their talk tonight, and wished she had the courage to open up and look inside herself as deeply as Bette has started to. Bette was not the same woman Tina met and fell in love with so long ago. She was not as controlling, although she still has the presence to make things go how she wished. But she didn’t need to have her hand in every decision made anymore. She actually showed faith in those around her to make the right decisions of their choosing. Only when it adversely affected her situation, or a desired outcome would she intervene.
That control was one of the things Tina had found so damn attractive about Bette. That was until Tina gave up her control to Bette over everything, and then resented Bette for taking over.
She has also become much more expressive since Angelica was born. She was much more open with her feelings and thoughts. And even more so tonight thought Tina. Never had Bette let herself be as vulnerable as she was tonight right from the moment she saw Tina at the airport, and continuing during their talk. Letting herself cry openly, and telling Tina of so many of her private hurts and failings. Her fears, her wants and desires. Her need for Tina’s love and understanding and forgiveness
