Taking the Long Way – (Chapter: 4: Back to California)

As I pulled into the school veterinary clinic I saw Kaylen strike a John Travolta/Stayin’ Alive pose for me next to her blue WRX. She is beyond funny.

“Kaylen you are effing crazy!” I laughed as I got out of my truck. “People can see you, ya know?”

“Fuck if I care!!” She said running over to give me a hug. True, she probably didn’t care I thought. I loved her spontaneous, confident personality.

“Damn, girl you look hott!” she exclaimed stepping back from our hug. “If I was into girls I would totally have my way with you….again!”

“Whatever Kaylen! You missed your chance. Besides that little ‘incident’ was my freshman year and as I recall I was having my way with you. All we were doing was kissing before you punched me in the gut and told me to ‘get your queer lips of me’!” I said laughing hysterically.

“Details, details Spencer. Besides we made up and are totally friends now. That kiss was pretty hott though!” She said. I saw her green eyes flashing mischievously.

Kaylen and I had met at a party my freshman year. We introduced ourselves while filling our cups at a the keg. We got to talking and found out that we were in the same undergrad program and we instantly seemed to hit it off. I had been drinking way too much and out of nowhere I just assumed because we were getting along so well that she “LIKE” liked me. So the next natural progression in my drunk mind was that I should kiss her. I liked her, she liked me. Green light means go! I was the only one who saw that green light. Like Kaylen said, the 5 seconds we kissed were totally hot. Then I got an education. She punched me in the gut, dumped her beer on my head and called me queer all in one quick motion.

I secretly hoped that I would never see her again, but thankfully we did. This time both of us were sober. We had arrived early to an evening study session. I blushed furiously when I saw her and tried to pull my ball cap lower over my eyes. Kaylen recognized me instantly and her out going nature pulled through. She immediately came over and apologized for calling me queer and asked if it would have been better if she called me a lez. I laughed and said no not really. I told her I was sorry I kissed her. She said that it just surprised her and that even if it had been a boy who had kissed her she would have responded the same way. Except she would have told him to get his dick happy lips off her instead of queer. I was glad to hear that it had nothing to do with my orientation. She said she was kind of bummed she was straight because I kissed her better than her boyfriend. And just like that the awkward moment was gone and we have been best friends since.

    1. definatly not bad. I still am wondering how ur gonna throw Ashley into all this. I remember I messed up by bringing her in to the story using only a couple paragraphs. That was my 1st book, so don’t make my mistakes. Use a whole cha[ter to introduce them. PMS!
