    Author Notes:

    A sequel to “A new start”. “….all you could hear were the shots that sliced the air and screams.”

    “So you guys got together that night?”

    “Yes, but it was a secret. You see I wasn’t ready to come out yet so I begged your Mom to keep us a secret. She agreed because she didn’t want to push me into anything I wasn’t ready for.” I said

    “So what made you ready to come out? Why were you so scared?”

    “Well, sweetheart. I was afraid of my family’s reaction and afraid of what people might think. People were a lot less accepting than they are now. Although even now it’s still hard sometimes. So I started slow and told your Gramps first. He made things a lot easier. He told me that he’d love me no matter and basically accepted me with open arms. Two months after I told your Gramps I came out to everybody. Some people thought I was just in phase, others accepted me, some were in denial but the worst ones were the ones that were cruel and plain crazy. It was one of the hardest things I had to go through but I was tired of hiding. I didn’t feel I had to hide something as beautiful as my love for your Mom so that’s one of the main reasons why I did it. I didn‘t want to keep hiding.” I said softly

    “Was it really, really that hard for you to come out Mama?” Ashton asked softly

    “Like I said before for me it was. I mean I was lucky that I had your Mom and your Gramps on my side. That really helped.” I said quietly

    Ashton just stays quiets and seems to be lost in her thoughts. I’m curious as to why she’s asking so many questions so I ask, “Baby, what are you thinking about? What’s wrong?”

    Ashton sighs and says, “You know, my best friend Maggie, right?”

    “Of course, You guys have been best friends for 4 years now.”

    “Well, my feelings for her have changed a lot in the past few months. I mean I think I’m in love with her. I just can’t get her out of my head. I live for her smiles. When she kisses my cheek my heart tries to leap out of my chest. I think she might like me more than just as a friend. She looks at me in a special way. She never looks at anybody else the same ways. I think she’s just scared of what she’s feeling for me because her parents would definitely don’t approve. I mean they barely tolerate me as her best friend. Imagine what they would do if I was more.” Ashton says softly
