    Author Notes:

    A sequel to “A new start”. “….all you could hear were the shots that sliced the air and screams.”

    “Just tell it.” Ashton said

    “Okay. Well, the truth kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. I figured it out about 7 months into my friendship with your Mom. For all those months your Mom and I were best friends. We did everything together. At the time your Mom was already out and I wasn’t. I was still in denial I guess. I was just confused and tried so hard to be what my family wanted to be. I dated boys here and there and so did your Mom but it was never serious. Usually one date and that was it. During that time your Mom and I would have little moments were we would get lost in each others eyes or there would be touches here and there that would give me butterflies in my stomach.”

    “But didn’t the butterflies in your stomach give you a hint that your feelings were more than friendly?” Ashton asked

    “Thinking about it now they did but back then no. I was scared and didn’t want to accept them for what they really were.” I said

    “Hmm..okay, go on.” Ashton said

    “Well, one Friday night your Mom, your Uncle Clay, your Aunt Chelsea and Kyla went down to Gray’s. Your Mom looked gorgeous but she always did. She was wearing a blue jean shirt, a white halter that really brought out her tan and her curly hair was down. My jaw dropped when she picked me up.” I said as I stopped closed my eyes and remembered exactly how she looked. A huge grin on my face.

    I guess I was quiet for too long when Ashton chuckled and said, “Mama, stop drooling and go on.”

    I blushed and continued, “Grey was a nightclub we went to often. We were there a while and everybody was having a wonderful time. Your Mom and I danced for a bit and then went back to the table. We were there probably ten minutes when a girl asked your Mom to dance. It had happened before so at the time it really didn’t bother me. Usually your Mom would go, dance one dance and come back. Keeping it, rated G.”

    “Go on,” Ashton said again

    “Well, I got wrapped up talking to your Aunt Kyla that I hadn’t noticed that your Mom had been gone a lot longer than one song. When your Aunt pointed it out to me I frowned and began to scan the dance floor looking for your Mom. Well, that’s when shit hit the fan so to speak.” I said smiling
