“Yeah um judge that shit, I mean stuff, doesn’t work, have you seen Amy winehouse? I mean big time singer, even bigger wino and if she can’t kick her habits for millions of dollars, what makes you think I can kick it for the sake of just kicking it?”

“Spencer it’s the only choice you have. You either go now or you rot away and jail and risk not seeing your friends or family again.” She says that like they actually want to see me

“Ok so where is this rehab place?” I’d rather not end up in some shanky place that doesn’t work anyway

“Canada.”

“Canada? Your solution to my problem is to send me to a place where the drinking age is 18, one year away from my age? Sorry judge but after the whole 30 day program I’m pretty sure I would just hit the bar in celebration just cuz I can.”

I don’t know why she started smiling me but it kinda scared me

“Spencer, this isn’t some 30 day program that you can fake your way through. It’s somewhat of a boarding school. The max you can spend there is 2 years which is perfect for you because you only have 2 years of high school left. While you finish up your high school education you also go through a recovery program. It’s best for you because you can still get into college with out a stint in rehab or jail tarnishing your applications.”

“Oh my god! Did you just say I have to stay there for 2 years, two fucking years? Sorry judge but no I’ll take jail for 600 hundred Alex.”

“Spencer! You don’t have a choice, your mother signed the papers already and you will be leaving next week. You will be going and if you try to run, you will be spending the rest of your life behind bars, understood.”

My mouth wanted to make some smartass remark but the look on her face advised me otherwise.

“Yes judge I got it.”

“Good now lets go tell your mother. She should be happy to hear the news.”

I just drop my head and raise my cuffed hands up to my face. This was not what I wanted. But I guess it’s what I deserve. A life for a life
