Cheer – (Chapter: Seven Deadly Sins)
I was stopped at the cross of two minor side streets that was normal on my route. Off left was a gas station and right was a small recreational center that was also normal on my route, but what was not normal was seeing Kyla exit the recreational center along with her sister.
Do not know why I did it. Could just be another unimportant thing to think about. Just another thing I cannot really explain, but I assume the light turned green. My attention, however, was transfixed at another place. I was sitting with my hands locked on the steering wheel and my back stiffly straight. I was wondering what they were doing. I was so deep in that thought that I did not notice the both of them noticing me watching. I did not notice Ashley coming up to my car window fast, shoulders raised and fists clenched.
“What is your problem?” She was near shaking and I had a quick shock race through my heart after suddenly noticing her. I did not say anything but sat with my mouth gaping like an idiot. “You went too far you stupid fucking cheerleader.”
Kyla was trying to be reasonable with her sister and I could see her trying to pull her away.
“I swear you tell anybody about this.” She threatened still trying to come at my window. I only shook my head at her. Not entirely understanding what had happened. It even took me a moment to realize that something in my pocket was vibrating. Hastily I scrambled to pull my phone out and saw a text from The Train gossip girl, Nikki that read:
‘Remember that old rumor ‘bout Kate and Davies? It is confirmed. Davies is n luv. Lol’
I looked up and saw Nikki coming out the door of the same place that Davies and Kyla came out of and then I noticed the sign that had settled from the gust of wind that said: Spiritual Outreach. Things began to click in my head, and I began to figure how Nikki got some of her information.
Ashley caught my eye again only this time she was far out of my focus. Her edges not sharp. My eyes were burning and my throat was tight, and I realized I was crying. Why?
It was everything that I had been mulling through hitting me at once. It was like a power surge that my underdeveloped mind could not process all at once. Ashley, she always seemed so sad and just then that anger that came pouring out of her by just seeing me watch her…I understand the damage I have done. Tormenting some innocent person because I could not deal with my own fucked up thoughts made me selfish.
I can see it in her eyes every time she looked at me. Not just the hate but that bitter sadness written on her face and I knew it was reflected in my own. It was poisoning me. I cannot help but turn away from her now. I lifted my heavy foot and let my car lurch forward rushing away. Not standing to see her so low because I can feel it just as strong dragging me down. This time I really did care about hell. I was already in it. All things that I have done to her and all this regret can count as my last sin, sorrow.
