Cheaters Never Prosper – (Chapter: Two- You're Just Broken)

“How’s your head?” Spencer inquired with a sneaky smile, placing her feet up on the bumper and balancing her elbows on her knees.

“Very funny.” Replied Ashley, turning her head to study the side of Spencer’s face for a moment. If things weren’t so complicated, she could easily see herself waking up beside this girl for the rest of her life.

“I thought so.” Agreed the blonde, meeting the girl’s gaze and giving one of her sweet little smiles.

Ashley just stared for a moment, wanting to memorize how the girl looked at that exact point and time. She wasn’t used to being like this around her, just sitting and talking. Most of the time when they slept together Spencer wouldn’t even be there when she woke up. It made it easier for Ashley to stay detached and view her as more of a thing and less of a person, “So, I thought today we’d try and find a hotel. We could both use a shower and an actual bed wouldn’t hurt.”

“Oh… Ash I…” Spencer began, her smile fading as she shifted her eyes to the dirt, “I was thinking… And I really think I should go home.”

“Home? Are you sure that’s safe? I mean, what about Nick?” The girl inquired, sincerely concerned. The last time she heard the guy wasn’t exactly all aboard the Homo-Spencer express (of which Ashley was the conductor).

“The guy is my husband, I can’t exactly avoid him for the rest of my life.” Spoke the blonde, although something told Ashley she wished that weren’t the case.

“But Spencer…. He seemed really upset, dangerous even. I don’t want you to get hurt is all.” Ashley reasoned, folding and unfolding her arms uncomfortably. Spencer looked equally unnerved, her blue eyes glued to the ground.

“I’ve been married to the man for 5 years Ash, he’s harmless. Don’t worry about me.” She assured the brunette, although it was questionable just who she was trying to convince. Ashley felt all of her protective instincts boiling to the surface, and unless she could stop herself the girl was moments away from handcuffing Spencer to the inside of her car and saying ‘You’re stayin’ with me’ in a deep southern drawl.

“You didn’t seem to think that when you came banging on my doorstep last night. You seemed pretty scared for someone whose husband is ‘harmless’.” Argued the girl, rising to her feet because her skin was too itchy to sit still. She didn’t like this. There was a sick feeling in her gut that was screaming for her to not let Spencer go.
