‘I’ll be back in a minute,’ Spencer stood to leave the table and Ashley looked surprised, she had been so absorbed in her own thoughts that she had totally missed the exchange between the three girls that ended when Maggie went into the house.

‘No, I’ll go.’ I also stood and gave Spencer a look that told her I knew exactly what was going on and to leave it alone. She knew me well enough to back off.

‘I’ll just grab a soda. Want one Ash?’ She seamlessly covered her real reason for getting up so as not to make the others curious but they weren’t stupid and a quick glance around the table showed they knew something was going on.

‘Water please,’ Ash smiled up at her girlfriend and Spencer grinned back.

‘K baby,’ a peck on the lips and she headed over to the ice bucket for some drinks and I headed inside.

What the hell was going on? What had I missed? Austin seemed a little pissed at Spencer and had now disappeared inside the house, I looked around and noticed Maggie was absent too and May was also looking pissed. Girls and their fucking drama, I looked at Amy and she shrugged and rolled her eyes, joining me in my disapproval for all things dramatic. I’d ask Spencer about it later, now wasn’t the time, she returned to the table with the drinks, answering my questioning look with a shrug before sitting down and taking my hand again. Yep, later.

I left Annie and the others at the table and went to find my sister, she wasn’t in the kitchen or any of the downstairs rooms I checked so I used my head and made my way upstairs. I reached her room but was stopped by the sound of voices, it took me a second but I quickly recognised the husky tones.

I had been keeping an eye on the developing sitch and it was the last straw when I saw Maggie fly into the house, obviously upset. I squeezed Addy’s hand and quietly left my so far winning pot on the table and snuck inside. Addy would cover if she needed to, I didn’t want anyone else coming after me. It was cool and quiet in the huge house, I mean I’d been used to bigger but this was still way, way bigger than the place I shared with Meg. The downstairs was silent except for the sounds of laughter and music drifting in from the pool and the buzz of the air con and other appliances. I knew Maggie always hid in her room when she was upset, so that was my destination.
