The Journey to You – Chapter 19

    Chapter 19

    9:25pm. Day 17. Tina’s Motel. San Francisco.

Bette sat on the floor in front of the door to Tina’s room, rejecting what must have been the 11th or 12th call from Tina. Her phone beeped again to alert her to yet another message left in her voicemail.

Tina was having dinner with Sam. How could she? Why? Bette mentally kicked herself for being so spontaneous and flying up here on a whim. For what? Was she rushing Tina? Was she forcing her back to Sam? She shook her head; this was why she didn’t do relationships.

    9:25pm. Day 17. Sam’s Apartment. San Francisco.

Tina left another message for Bette to call her back. She looked down at her phone sadly, not knowing what else she could do now. She decided to send Bette a text:

“Bette it’s just dinner. I would have told you. Trust me? Please call me back. I love you baby.”

Tina walked back to the dining table, flashing a small smile at Sam as she sat down. Both women fiddled with their food, avoiding eye contact and conversation, unspoken words and question hung in the air. It was too soon, they were not ready for this.

    “Sam”

    “Tina”

They had both spoken at once, smiling nervously at their timing. Tina looked up and nodded for Sam to continue.

“You don’t have to stay, I understand.”

“I’m sorry I’m distracted it’s just…” Tina trailed off, unsure how to finish the sentence.

“She didn’t know you were having dinner with me tonight”

    “No.”

“And she’s less than happy about it.”

    “Yes”

Sam felt her heart bleed at the hurt in Tina’s voice. But she knew she was not ready to comfort Tina through this either. Their eyes met across the table but Sam looked away first. Tina realised how this must be affecting Sam, and how selfish she was being, calling her new girlfriend while she was having dinner with her ex-girlfriend.

“Dinner was great Sam, thanks, but you’re right, I am going to go…”

“I’ll grab that box for you”

Sam disappeared into the guest room and returned with a large box.

“I think that’s the last of the stuff, if there’s more I’ll just send it to you.”

    2. Love that Bette stayed, she is good at running, Tina had dinner with her ex,yet Bette had breakfast with hers, Where does that leave then, Crazy jealousie. thanks

    3. I am so happy that this story has returned! Bette definitely needs to find a way to support Tina through this lonely transitional period. It seems as though this was definitely a good start! I hope we learn about what happens during the next four days – so much time to explore one another’s likes and dislikes in detail. PPS!

    4. I am glad that Bette didn’t take off and that she is recognizing what she is feeling. Tina and Bette sharing their issues and wanting to work on things is AWESOME! A little makeup and I miss you sex, WHOO-EE! I hope that the girls find a way to spend some time together over the next few weeks.

    5. Glad that Bette and Tina were able to discuss the issue of having dinner with Sam. It is pretty nice when the woman you love is still waiting for you even after a blunder.

    6. well now klets get bette to stay for a while and tina gets a lot done… so maybe they can both be back in LA in 2 weeks instead of 3… i am also glad bette didn’t go back home without talking to tina first… love this story… PPS

    7. You wrote about the awkwardness between Sam and Tina and the swirling emotions in both Bette and Tina and their internal dialogue and questions quite well. Hope Bette can stay longer in SFO because I’m really curious if they’ll make it as a couple beyond the sheets. Thanks for this update, tibetteporter! Hope you aced your exams. :>

    8. I’m so glad Bette didn’t rush back to LA and that Tina cut the evening short and came home to find her. I think Bette should talk to her assistant and find a way to be there for Tee so she won’t be lonely and she’ll be able to get all her work done faster. Then back to LA to start a new life. PPS

    9. So happy that this little bump along the path totrue love did not derail them. Hhappy that Bette did not return to LA before talking to Tina. Glad they worked it out. Great post.
