Chapter 56
Bette
Walking around the airport looking for Shane and Alice did nothing to have me in a humorous mood. When they finally made it to the gate, with only seconds to spare, I allowed my true annoyance to come to the surface. I really shouldn’t have though knowing them. This was the norm when they were involved. My annoyance dissipated quickly once I was seated beside Tina. She had taken my bag when I had gone on the search, placed my mp3 player and book in the seat pocket and had a pillow and blanket waiting for me. When I was buckled in, she took my hand and all the stress just left my body. As much as the girls can push my buttons and had almost made our trip start off with two fewer people, Tina’s ability to calm me at times still amazes me but her mere presence was what I usually needed to make me feel grounded. I have no idea how I survived when she wasn’t in my life.
I ignored Al and Shane but Tina, knew enough of what could happen once we were airborne and they had the ability to order drinks again. She was up before I even realized it. She took Angie, who was sitting with Kit and put her with Al and Shane. If anything could motivate them not to drink and become more drunk thus more annoying, it would be Angie. It was apparent that Angie was not in their equation of events that were going to occur but they couldn’t resist her and my look was not one that they wanted to challenge. Tina’s brilliant idea worked and the girls sat together watching cartoons and laughing at the antics that weren’t too different from their lives.
Tina must have been exhausted. Although I laid my head against her, she fell asleep minutes after we were in the air. She typically didn’t sleep when flying but the past months had been so emotionally draining to her that she probably needed it and when given the opportunity, she finally resisted fighting it. I moved away from her to ensure that she wasn’t disturbed. Right after the pilot announced that we could move around, I walked over to check on Angie and the girls. They were all sleeping. I walked back to James and Kit and took the empty seat next to them. It is amazing to me how close James and Kit have become over the years. Kit, of course gets along with everyone, and when James first started working for me, Kit was still abusing drugs and alcohol. When she would call for a favor of some sort, it was usually James who answered the phone and went to her rescue. I had all but washed my hands of her. I didn’t know for years that it was James who went with her to her first AA meeting. I also didn’t know that when she lost her place to live, James took her in. I was too far removed at that time to care about her after all the broken promises she had made to me over the years.

Man, it is so nice to see that Bette feels so loved by others. Just getting that unconditional love from Tina’s parents seems to have made a huge difference in not only Bette and Tina’s relationship but with all those involved. Kit was extremely lucky that James was there to help her through all the bad times. I love James and am happy that you are writing him the way that you have. Hey just 9 days with the kids and the 3 with the teachers left in this school year. Summer is on it’s way. Yippppyyy.
Great update! The way you write both Tina and Bette’s sides of the story is really well done – they focus on different aspects of the same event, but throughout, the love they have for each other and their family is the same. Thanks for sacrificing your opportunity for a nap to write for us!
Lucky U to have a little man to wake U in the night. Thx for posting this heart warming story. I like it so much. So happy for Tina to have great parents & Ange to have grans who adore her & so nice for Bette to be accepted, respected and welcomed for herself not just as T’s partner. If only all humans/families could be so loving. Great for B & T’s other kidz too…and for Kit to have James and now Catherine is wonderful; she’s always so alone, its very sad but not in your story. Lucky u patti to have 9 days to summer hols. Its winter here and 3 terms of 10 weeks until summer hols. Its winter here, snow on the hills, cold nights and mornings, lovely sun filled days tho’.
Now I know why your writing is so wonderful. You have a beautiful and open heart. That little man is one lucky boy to have you to love and care for him. Man I hope my parents are this undertanding when I decide to tell them… I know that it was years for Tina’s parents to get to this place but I hope that I will not have to experience that. Glad that your getting a little rest..man those teething months are hell, I remember all too well from when my nephew was that age. PPS

This story has excellent from the begining, love the way you describe what is going on from the 2 points of view, have enjoyed reading what you have written certainly am looking forward to more.
I’m bit teary eyed after this chapter. it’s wonderful at how loved the they all feel. sam and catherine really did a good turn around. i just the POV and how they go back forth.love the back ground on kit and james relationship and how he helped her get back on track. amazing!!!! :)PPS
NAG, you have no idea how I look forward to your updates to this story. I am in awe at how you consistently provide beautifully written and interesting chapters. You are a true testement to the fact that Bette and Tina CAN be interesting for an audience and have them coming back for more without high drama. Can’t wait for your next update!

Even when a child crys for hours,isn’t it wonderful to have then to love. My last G/D will be out of school June 5. waited 17 yrs for this. She will be going to college and staying home, She is a granny’s baby. So great that Bette feels so loved by Tina family, to know Bette is to love her and loving Tina like she doe did a lot for Tinas family. Love that the gang are all there with them,so her parents can see the love between them all. take care of little big man. thanks for posting.
