What I Want for Christmas – Part III

On Sunday afternoon, Tina was casually dressed in jeans, an old pair of boots and a red San Francisco tee shirt with a little Golden Gate Bridge, cable car, Coit Tower, and other icons of San Francisco on it when she rang the doorbell at Bette’s house.  The shirt was touristy and cheesy, and certainly wasn’t the kind that Bette would find very enticing, but Tina knew that Jodi was at the house and after a week of vacation, she didn’t like dressing up.

Bette answered the door in yoga pants and a white wife beater.  The sight of Bette in a tank top always had a bit of an effect on Tina and she was glad she had taken care of herself in San Francisco; otherwise she wasn’t sure she would have been able to keep her hands to herself.

Bette welcomed Tina inside and they awkwardly kissed on the cheek.  Upon hearing her other mother’s voice, Angelica rushed out of her bedroom, book in hand and into Tina’s arms.  Tina hugged and kissed her daughter whom she had missed a ton.  She noticed the book in Angelica’s hand was called “Holiday Celebrations” and it had the symbols of Christmas, Kwanza and Chanukah on the cover.  Jodi came out into the living room and they pleasantly exchanged greetings.

“I hear you had a nice Christmas dinner and cooked everything yourself.”

“We had fun.  I even convinced Bette to have a buffet instead of a formal sit down dinner.”

“No way!”  Tina was genuinely impressed.

“My friends aren’t very good at arriving on time so it easier to have a casual dinner.  How was your trip?”

“It was good and relaxing, but it’s nice to be home.  I missed my little angel.”

“I’m going to go, I have some work to do.  Happy New Year, Tina.”

    “Happy New Year.”  Tina replied.

As Jodi and Angelica signed their goodbyes (Angie shoved the book at Tina in order to free her hands) Tina laughed to herself imagining the expression on her mother’s face if she ever had to tell her that Angelica was having a Bat Mitzvah.  Tina really did embrace having a multicultural daughter.  As Bette and Jodi exchanged their goodbyes, Tina wondered why Jodi was leaving.  If Bette had been her girlfriend and she had the opportunity to be alone with her for the first time in a week she wouldn’t be leaving voluntarily.  Did Bette want some alone time?  As much as Tina enjoyed having time to herself when Angelica was with Bette, sometimes the sudden quiet left her feeling lonely.

    1. I really liked it. Tina laid all her cards on the table. Now, its up to Bette. She seemed pretty sure her relationship with Jodi wasn’t permanent even if she doesn’t get back with Tina. Angelica would probably love a little sibling. I’d love a B/T reunion but I also like that Tina told Bette that she wanted another kid.. and hoped she’d be in the child’s life either way.

    2. Hello Madcapper, I am really happy that you are back with this story. I love how you have both Tina and Bette laying their hearts and fears out in front of the other. This situation with Tina and another child is a little manipulative but it is nice that she is sharing in her emotions and taking her share of the blame for why they failed and stopped putting it all on Bette’s shoulders. I think that Bette is so very much “in Love” with Tina but I think it is time that Tina makes a grand Gesture to Bette, she should be the one going down on one knee to show her just how much she wants this commitment. I think Jodi’s time away from them allowed her to reflect and I think she might end up making the grand sacrifice, allowing Bette to finally follow her heart and soul, rather then stay where it is safe. I cannot wait for the next part, your writing is so deep and layered. Sincerely, JC

    3. Talking is the best way to solve a lot of problems. It really clears the air. If Bette and Tina does get together. That will be the problem solver TALKING thanks

    4. this was great madcap, right from the start and my picturing of tina in her boots…which was suggestive in itself. heehee…having them having more kids is a stroke of lovliness that i look forward to:) pps when you can

    5. Wonderful chapter and I went back and read the others and I love your story. Now that Tina has her self assurance back and is more secure in her relationship with Bette and put all her cards on the table. She has finally usurped the power in the relationship. With no more of that passive aggressive behavior she is now in full control of what happens in her life and that of her child. Jodi doesn’t really care all that much for Bette nor does Bette really care very much for Jodi but it beats being alone and they are certainly not happy with each other. Hopefully Shane can talk to Bette and help her to see what is in front of her face, the reality of being in love with Tina, even with hr fears that they might not make it long term. the risk is minimal and the reward is a lifetime of loving and being loved by Tina. What could possible be better than that and the risk of losing Tina to someone else is far greater than the risk of being with her. Waiting for your next chapter.

    6. This is getting good. Tina possibly getting pregnant with Marcus’s sperm and Bette fighting her feelings that continue to roar up is sounding very interesting.
