“Stop Adele,” Tina once again held up her hand in front of Adele’s face. “You don’t get to participate in this conversation. This is a conversation between a studio executive and her financier. You as the Director of one film don’t get to participate in these discussions.”
Speaking into the phone, Tina began talking to William again. “Again William, I am sorry for this drama that Adele has started, however that’s all it is…drama. All I need from you is your assurance that you are not going to pull your financing from a movie that is one scene shy of wrapping. I need you at this moment to either trust the studio you partnered with, or not, and take your money elsewhere.”
“Say Tina, I don’t know what brought this all on, but I don’t like to be threatened. Just what is going on over there?”
“William, I am not threatening you. I am simply asking if the agreement you made with Shaolin still stands. If not, I need to know now so I can call my back-up financing and get the agreements with them in place.”
“Tina Tina Tina,” William repeated her name in a condescending voice. “I seriously doubt that you can find financing at this late date for your little lesbian movie. Now, I insist on hearing what is going on from Adele. Adele dear…”
“Actually William,” Tina smiled into the phone, as she had been waiting for two months to be able to say this out loud.
“I have had alternate financing in place since shortly after you met Jenny. You see, I ran into Peggy Peabody a couple of months ago and she expressed disappointment that she couldn’t be quote, ‘the money behind that delicious tale of lesbian love and debauchery.’ You’ve no doubt heard of Peggy Peabody? It seems that now that she is happily in love again with her partner Marilyn she has shifted her focus and would like to concentrate some of her considerable wealth toward making lesbian based movies.”
Tina stood there, locked in a lethal yet amused gaze with Adele, as silence stretched on the other end of the line.
Finally, after what had to have been a full minute Tina heard William clearing his throat. “Tina, I have no intention of taking my money elsewhere. I have believed in Jenny’s project from the moment we met, and was very disappointed to hear that she did something so terrible that Shaolin felt the need to replace her with someone else. Whatever it was, I hope that it can all be worked out, and that we will have the pleasure of seeing Jenny at the wrap party tomorrow.”
It was all Tina could do from laughing out loud. “I’m sure that Jenny will be thrilled to see you again William. Thank you, we won’t be bothering you any more. Good-bye.”
“Good-bye Tina.”
Tina slowly flip the phone closed as she glared into Adele’s eyes. “Now, pack up your belongings and get off MY set.”
Tina turned to a security guard. “Please allow Adele to gather her personal belongings and then escort her off the lot. She is not to be allowed back on without my personal okay.”
“Yes Ms. Kennard.” The guard stood with one hand resting on his gun and glared at Adele.
Tina turned away from Adele without a backward glance. Flipping open her phone she hit the speed dial number for Jenny and hoped her friend could get here in time to finish shooting tonight.
“Hello.”
“Jenny, it’s Tina.”
“Oh, hi Tina.”
“Whatcha doing?”
Jenny stared at the four walls of her bedroom. “Being pathetic.”
“What do you mean?” Tina asked.
“I am sitting here reading the script of Les Girls for about the thousandth time.”
Tina smiled. “Where are you at?”
“Just getting to the end.”
“Good, then get off you butt and get down here!”
“Down where?” Jenny asked.
“The set.”
Silence..then in a soft voice, “Les Girls set?”
“Your cast and crew are waiting for you.” Tina had tears in her eyes, knowing the gift she had just given to her friend.
“But…”
“Come on…hurry up Madame Director…I don’t want to lose the light.”

Wow, I bet no one will $### with you. The only thing that would have been better is Adele making a threatening move towards Tina and Tina laying her out and the police hauling her off. I hate devious people and usually couldn’t keep my cool long enough to mentally power through in an intelligent way rather than plow through like a tornado or wild fire wind. Love your writing and if I ever get backed into a corner again I am coming to you for advice.
Sea, that was great and I would have loved to see Tina do this on the show. Alpha Tina at her best and I for one would have loved to see Tina deck Adele when she gave that shitty little smirk after turning her back and lighting a cigarette, and especially that pregnant pause before offering up the line about the movie being on budget and on time. Tina should have hit her so hard that it would have lifted the little bit– off her feet. Anywho, loved your rendition of how it should have been. Teriffically AWESOME. Hope this continues for another couple chapters. You have not lost anything in three mos, as if you could.
