Shane: We can just call a wait-

Gabe turns and heads towards the counter, where the cashier awaits.  While he does, Shane turns her attention to Shay.

Shane: You like that game, don’t you?

Shay: Mm hm.

Shane: Your Dad get that for you?

Shay: Mom did.

Shane: Oh.  What happened to Mom?

Shay: She’s sick.

Shane: Is she gonna be okay?

Shay shrugs, humming "I don’t know" in the process.

Shane: Is there anything I can do?

Shay: You’re about to find out…

Shane tilts her head.

Shane: What do you mean?

Shay: Dad’s leaving.

Shane: Where ya goin’?

Shay: Wherever you take me.

Shane: Huh?

Shane looks near the cashier and there’s no Gabe in sight.

Shay: He doesn’t wanna be Dad anymore.

Shane: What the…

Shay: You got any batteries?

Shay’s demeanor is that of a young boy who hasn’t quite grasped the reality of the moment.  His World mostly exists within the confines of a portable video game console.  Reality itself sucks as far as he’s concerned.  Shane becomes frantic.

Shane: Shit!

Shane stands from her seat.

Shane: Don’t go anywhere…

Shane walks frantically towards the exit.  No Gabe in sight.  She looks down both sides of the street before seeing a duffelbag on the sidewalk unattended.  It has "Shay MacCutcheon" written on it.  Shane reaches down and picks up the bag, unzipping it to see some video game cartridges, a toothbrush and some clothes.  Shane realizes fully what’s just happened, gritting her teeth and closing her eyes in sorrow.

Shane: Ssss….son of a bitch….

Shane walks back in the duffelbag, stopping in her tracks as Shay stands there.

Shay: Batteries died…

Shane sees a piece of herself in the boy’s eyes.  The longing to escape from the stench of reality.  She sees it and it brings a stream of tears as she covers her face with her right hand.  Shay calmly takes the bag from her and Shane places her left hand on his right shoulder.

Shay: Are you taking care of me now?

Shane: ….I guess I am.

Shane takes Shay with her.  They’re going home.

The home in question, Jenny’s has now filled up with people as she finishes her conversation with Tim.  Alice and Lara play Cats In The Cradle while talking with Carmen, Helena and Tonya.

Jenny: We’re hoping you show up….

Tim: Alright.  Tell Bette and Tina, "Thanks for the invite."  We might show up just for the Hell of it.

There’s a knock on the door.

Carmen: It’s open!

The door opens and Bette enters.  She sees Jenny on the phone.

Jenny: Hold on, Tim…someone wants to speak to you.

Tim: Whuh…who?

Jenny motions with the phone to Bette to come over.  Bette walks over and Jenny hands her the phone.

Jenny: It’s Tim.

Bette now has the phone to her ear.

Bette: You gonna be able to come out?

Tim: Bette!!!  Hey, long time no see!

Bette: Thanks.

Tim: And congratulations.  About time, you two tied the knot.

Bette: Well, better late than never right?

Tim: If we can, we’ll show up.

Bette: I hope you do.

Tim: Well, I gotta get dinner started.

Bette: Alright.  Good talking to you again.

Tim: See you later.

Bette: Bye.

Both sides hang up their phones.

Bette: Thanks, Jenny.

Jenny: Yeah, it was easier than I thought.

Carmen: Feeling excited yet?

Bette: Oh yes.  You?

Carmen: Oh yeah.  A little cautious, but-

Alice: No no no….we already laid down the ground rules…no ditching this time.

Lara: That goes for you, too baby.

Alice: I couldn’t run from you.

Lara leans over to Alice and smiles.

Lara: I know…

The two exchange a kiss while still playing.

Tonya: This is so awesome.  It’s like we’re all coming together.

Helena: Indeed we are.

The front door opens and standing there are Shane and Shay.  Shane looks upset and scared while Shay looks at the new people.

Shay: Anybody got batteries?
