Shane’s voice begins to shake.

Shane: You….you fucking took her….  You fucking tore Al’s heart into little pieces, you know that?  But you were too…Goddamned busy thinking about what you wanted…

Lara: …That’s not true….  The only thing I was thinking about was what Dana wanted.  You don’t think I felt bad for Alice?

Shane: No…I don’t.

Lara and Shane find themselves face to face, just inches away from each other as the tension remains thick.

Lara: Well you’re wrong.  I felt like shit.  I hated that she was hurting…because I knew what that feeling was like.  But you know something?  In the end, it didn’t matter….because we all lost her.  We all lost Dana.  I did….Alice did…you did.  Everybody did.  And it hurt all of us just the same.

Shane: …

Lara: And we’re still hurting, Shane.  And that’s why we’ve hurt each other since.  We’re not used to this.

The voices begin to calm.

Shane: …No, we’re not.  But we need to stop.

Lara: Yes we do.

Shane: ….We can’t change the past.  I wish I could….I’d change a lot.

Lara: As much as it hurts, there’s no use in trying to think about that.  All we can do now is work on making sure the future’s better for us.  And that means that we…as a family need to be a little more open with each other.  We’re family, Shane.  You, me, Alice, Carmen, everyone.  We need to stop covering up these feelings and just let everything go.  It’s the only way we’re going to move forward.

Shane: ….I don’t wanna lose her, Lara….  I’m lucky to have her now.  I don’t wanna fuck that up.

Lara places her hands on Shane’s biceps.

Lara: You’re not.  We’re going to make sure of that.  You both need your friends right now to get through all of this.  And I don’t want you to think that I’m not among yours.  Alright?

Shane nods.

Shane: Alright.

Lara: I’m not just your fiancee’s friend.  I’m yours, too.

Lara leans close to Shane’s right ear.

Lara: So get used to it.

Shane chuckles as the tensity begins to fade.

Shane: You’re still comin’ over for Family Night right?

Lara: Yes.

Shane: Cool.  We’ll hang out.

Lara nods and grins.

The evening rolls on as it does.  Eventually, Carmen’s with Shane in bed and Alice’s in bed with Lara.  All is peaceful.  The question however is whether or not anyone’s prepared for tomorrow?
