The Laws of Attraction: Part Twenty

The grin came back in full force when Dana’s eyes caught sight of the
huge paper mache bouquet of rainbow flowers that sat on display in a
vase on the small table in her hallway where her downstairs phone sat.
They were all such tiny things but Dana honestly couldn’t be happier
when she noticed things like that. Just the innocuous and telling signs
in her condo that said, to her anyway, Alice was here.

Whether it be her car in the parking lot, her keys hanging on their
peg, her paper mache flowers in a vase, or her cds and books spread
randomly throughout the house. All of them created the same effect of
announcing Alice’s presence as an important every day occurrence in
Dana’s life and she loved that. She loved seeing the hints of her
girlfriend take hold of her living space and in the process, making it
    her space as well.

Dana loved it enough that she wondered if maybe she should consider
asking Alice to move in with her. But that was something she had been
considering for some time now. Since the Olivia Cruise, to be precise.
Though she couldn’t help being scared it might be too soon to ask such
a thing. She had moved so very fast in her relationship with Tonya and
though her romance with Alice was completely different, Dana feared
making the same mistakes. Mulling over this, Dana realized on hearing
Howie complain in her ear now was not the time to think on such things.

Not while her little brother was having a coming out crisis.

“How, calm down,” she soothed and tried to hold back a chuckle which
she knew would only get her bitched at some more. “Al and I will be
there at two o’clock, we’ll eat lunch with Mom and Dad, and once
they’re nicely stuffed and sedated we’ll tell them of your fabulous *****
boy status, okay?” Laughing at Howie’s response that was preening about
his own fabulous nature, Dana replied dryly, “Yes. I am admitting you
are fabulous. How couldn’t I with all the wardrobe work you did for me
during Pride? That’s a sheer sign of fabulousness if I ever saw one.”

Laughing again at Howie’s reply, Dana headed upstairs and to her
bedroom, tossing her gym bag on the bed as she said, “I don’t know. You
might want to wait until Mom wakes up from the self induced coma before
    bringing Gino home.”

    1. This was a great piece of writing. Everything fell into place. I adored the conversation between Al and D’s mommy in the end…*sighs* That was so sweet.

    2. loved it! love the relationship between Alice and Sharon – you can see Sharon needing that kind of kick in the ass… and her appreciating alice for it.
oh and “I never wanted David Lee out of Van Halen but sometimes shit happens,” lmao – possibly the funniest line i have read yet!

    3. I know I said this before, but I totally loved that you commented on Gabby’s wardrobe. And I loved the interaction between Gabby and Alice because there was affection and suspicion and all that in there and it was really dead-on. And you already know I loved what you did with Sharon and Alice.

And that suit Howie wore is kick ass hot.

    4. Well, I’m sure the whole chapter is wonderful as always, but for now I can’t seem to get past this:

“There lay Alice, a languid smile playing on her lips, beer bottle in hand, and her body frustratingly hidden from view by a huge pile of bubbles. Her smile turned mischievous and she scooped up a handful and playfully blew them at Dana.

“Join me?” drawled Alice in a delicious invite.”

Thanks for the image, Dreiser. I really have to stop reading this stuff!

    5. that was a gr8 chapter i love the interaction alice has with danas mother bless….. i cnt wait 2 c where u take the characters nxt…

    6. First, loved the bathtub scene. Second, The Alice and Sharon scene was great as well. It really brough a depth to Sharon that I always wanted to see. Dana’s parents always reminded me so much of my own.

    7. great chapter. love how they’re long and very detailed. (bathtub scene-nice) and alice and sharon… so cool. oh and alice coming clean w/ the gabby thing and dana trusting alice. love it!
