The Dying of the Light Part 11
There is perversion in the shadows, a sick depravity that allows hatred and cruelty to consume. One that twists reality, inspires voices of decent to come forward and paint their views in blood.
Unreal.
A lie; one that cannot be refuted because it is a believed truth.
How do you fight against the voices, the secrets that scream in your head and vocalise the worse fears.
The poetic beauty that once consumed, a passionate resonance of love and devotion; tainted. Stripped bare.
Flesh and bone, and those deceitful eyes.
**********
It had taken hours to get Angelica to sleep tonight, she was running a fever, most likely teething and was fussing. My poor baby.
Once Tina had her settled, in her bed, she told her about how her Momma B would soon be her Momma in every way that she was. That her aunts loved her and missed her.
She explained that her mistake, and that it was okay to make them as long as you admitted it and tried to make up for it. That’s what Tina was trying to do – make up for some errors in judgement.
At some point she must of dozed off as she was awoken by the phone. It was dark out, and late enough that she couldn’t hear much traffic on the nearby streets. Reaching for the phone she caught a glimpse of the time, illuminated in an eerie green – 3:52 AM. Nothing good came of calls at this time.
She wiped her face, trying to removed the cobwebs as she husked out a barely audible “Hello.” She was met with silence for a moment then a strange hiccuping sound. “Hello?” Tina tried again, unsure who would be calling, and why.
“Tee?” Tina recognised the name in an instant, but the voice was so hollow and small. It didn’t resemble the woman who would say her name with such love, scream it in passion or curse it in pain.
“Bette baby, what’s wrong?” She knew there had to be something wrong for Bette to call so late, to call her at all. Any other time of the day she’d have assumed that Bette would be calling to talk, to scream, to rage to her for every injustice that she could think to blame Tina for, but that voice made those thoughts flitter away.

I’ve always known Bette to be a fighter in every sense of the word. I can always find her standing strong and tall, ready to argue with anybody over anything and to never hold back. This is one of those times where she, as the poet wrote, has to rage against the dying of the light. Bring her back. Don’t let her fall into the abyss.
You are an amazing writer. It makes my heart hurt to see Bette is such pain but to me its completely realistic especially after everything that’s happened. I’m looking forward to your next chapter with the hope that Tina will be able to reach Bette and help her to regain herself.
You have my heart in turmoil over this. I’m so afraid that Bette will perish and never return. Oh please let Bette come back from the brink. The darkness she stands on the edge of can so easily swallow her up.
so heart wrenching this one…
This is the thing. Whether or not Tina allows Bette to adopt or see Angelica or be in her life in any way is completely dependent on Tina and her moods and even whims. She has all the power, and Bette was absolutely powerless. It is incredible that she would say that Bette didn’t love Angie or wouldn’t even miss her. So to keep Angelica from her just because she could, and because it was the best way to hurt Bette, because she was pissed at her for not being who Tina wanted her to be, was to me unforgivable. Tina can have as much fear as she likes, but a real human being deals with that fear on their own. It doesn’t give anyone the right to try to destroy anyone else’s life, and she has purposely and vindictively tried to destroy Bette. I am afraid for her. But hey, whatever happens is all good, cos Tina’s “not that bad.” I find it confusing that the author thinks that while writing so exquisitely of Bette’s destruction at her hands.
If there is something that we are savouring here, in this amazing update of yours, is the pace timing. We shall say it is just PERFECT. First, because things happening inside Bette must not be rushed. She needs that time to gather herself together and come out of the dark place where she is in. Tina’s determination to show Bette the adoption papers was a smart move. Although they can numb her mind, at first, due to her weakened state of mind. Once reality sinks in, her joy will start to come around. We understand that the first social worker who visited B&T was a complete monster, BUT as Joyce pointed out, this new one could do the right thing. Recognition of Bette as the second parent. In order to accomplish acceptance, she needs to let go and return to sanity for the sake of her daughter. This is getting better and better, Deean. Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. I so just caught up. WOW!!! Poor Bette, I hope Tina keeps her word and let Bette be in Angles life. Now please let Bette come back to life. Thank you
Hello My Beautiful Dee… Oh how you paint the words of pain and love in such beautiful bold brush strokes… much like Bette’s painting you are crafting a masterpiece of pure unadulterated emotions… you have so beautifully rendered all of Bette’s fears… losses… mistrust… as well as Tina’s continued subdued need to be there and allow Bette to take her time… create her own path back to her… I find this is the sign of a purer ‘love’ yes Tina did hurt Bette more then anyone should be hurt and no I am not forgetting Bette’s own pathway of betrayal… but for me Bette has paid for that a million times over… I love the tenderness of friendship you have brought out in Helena and yes I agree if anyone can save Bette from herself it is ‘Kit’ and ‘Angelica’ they are the keys to Bette’s soul right now… and maybe just maybe Tina can find her way back with a little patience and a lot of faith… you my most amazing friend know just how to pull out some of the strongest emotions within my soul… for I have felt a loss… not like Bette’s but a loss that sent me into this kind of darkness… and I thank you dearly for allowing me to remember it… and to rejoice for I have made it through with your friendship I continue to make it though… you completely amaze me my most beautiful Dee… love and hugs, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and Ever Proud to be Cuzzie to the ever Talented Eunichick)
