Sunday Mornings: 3 – Seventeen Reasons Why Not …

Bette laughed and nodded, glancing outside, “I think it’s in there,”

Cautiously, Tina walked past her through the bedroom to glance out the window. Behind her Bette began gathering together clothes and towels for her to take a shower, not bothering to ask, just knowing that there were clothes in her own wardrobe which despite being hers she still felt really and truly belonged to Tina,

    “Here,”

Tina smiled, and took them, “Thanks,” she stood shyly in front of the window, letting the sunshine warm her through, “look, Bette, about last night …”

Bette stopped her, “Don’t, it’s nothing really, I was being too sensitive,” she paused, “it’s just a movie right?”

Tina nodded, “Right,” she dipped her head in thought, seeming to contemplate a revelation, “you know you’re not the only one who hates their character you know, Nina’s a sap, Jenny writes her as this pathetic walk over who Bev just clicks her fingers to and she comes running …” her voice trailed off, “bit like those two ‘Shebar’ girls,”

Bette groaned, “Fuck,” she paused, stepping towards Tina with underwear she’d gone for last, it seeming to be one step too far, that as they sat together over breakfast, which Bette knew would come, she’d know exactly what Tina had on underneath her clothes, something which she hadn’t known for years, “Tee, you’re not really a walk over,” she offered quietly,

Tina smirked, accepting the underwear with a smile, tasteful yet tame, a suitable compromise, “And you’re not ‘really’ a bombastic bully,” she offered with a slight giggle, “mind if I take a shower?”

Bette shook her head, a little overwhelmed, “Sure … go ahead, I’ll make us some coffee,”

Why, because Tina could turn sadness into laughter and laughter into pain. Because for every hurtful moment, every second she watched her with Henry and felt her heart being ripped free of her chest there’d be this tiny little moment, some joke or a stolen glance at her with Angie and the world would set itself right again, spinning them eventually back into each others arms.

Because she’d grown up. Because in the last few years she wasn’t the Tina who left men to be with her, powerful when she had to be but mostly a quiet and cautious southern girl, wanting to be loved. She’d learnt how to love herself first and foremost, and every time she gave out advice or words of wisdom for Bette herself to use on Jodi, it seemed her words were laced with something deeper and more meaningful, something closer to prophecy,

    1. Perfect!!! You write them so unbelievably well… Can’t imagine what it’s gonna be after next week’s episode! These reasons why are just so right and beautifully worded… They (you) basically say it all about what real love is… Because sometimes it is simply wrong to think that love can be found in grand gestures, for true love resides in the most tiny and ridiculous details like the ” lift (of) a heartbeat with a twitch of her eyebrow, a wrinkle of her nose”. But I think your most powerful statement of this love is: “Because for every hurtful moment, every second she watched her with Henry and felt her heart being ripped free of her chest there’d be this tiny little moment, some joke or a stolen glance at her with Angie and the world would set itself right again, spinning them eventually back into each others arms.”… I bow to you, Sofa, thank you.

    2. You are THE BOMB! You are truly one of the VERY BEST writer’s on this site. I love your one chapter snippets like this. It is brilliant, and your words are so incredibly moving. Sofa, you could write twenty chapters a day and I would want more. Thanks hun.

    3. That was as good as I’ve read in many a day on this site. Full of insight into Bette’s inner mood, it seemed like a meditation of what could be again transposed over what has gone before. I loved this and I’ll be looping back to catch some more of your work. Thanks!

    4. very very lovely, even if it is tibette;) kidding hun…i liked especially the attention to those small (seemingly small but are they really? not the way you write them) details that make daily interactions into epic stories. xox
