Sunday Mornings: 3 – Seventeen Reasons Why Not …

Because when she looked at Jodi she saw someone beautiful, passionate and kind; intense, artistic and mardy. Their kisses held fire, their connection ran deep and their interests were equally balanced, but she wasn’t Tina. She couldn’t lift a heartbeat with just a twitch of her eyebrow, a wrinkle of her nose. Nor could she produce that look which had the same effect as chocolate, coffee and every sacred spice, the sound of the ocean, the depth of a sunset or the soft rustling wind through fallen autumn leaves. Tina was like every season, every emotion and every notion that her life was complete, without her it was easier every day to feel bored, lost and alone,

She heard her coughing, a gentle waking sound masked by self deprecating giggling and the noise she always made inside her throat when she woke to find herself somewhere else other than she thought,

She loved Jodi, loved the way it was in her nature to nurture and protect, how in that way they were the same. But when she closed her eyes she felt distanced from the woman who shared her bed and drawn towards the one who used to, her body lain still and soft upon the couch. The one who’s perfume once upon a time had filled the room, who’s shoes would always drift beneath the bed and who’s pyjamas she kept beneath her pillow any night they were forced to spend apart.

    “Bette …?”

Tina heard her moving around, the sound of her standing then sitting again, itching to go out there and fuss over her, fetch water or coffee and tylenol for her head. Then sitting again, because what they were doing was inappropriate no matter how comfortable it felt, to take advantage of her hungover state would be wrong,

    “Bette …?”

    “I’m in here,”

Tina stood at the doorway to the bedroom, the white blanket wrapped around her like a towel, she looked good for her run in with tequila, pot and pool, good as always,

Bette chuckled, and unabashed Tina shrugged, all too aware of how ridiculous she might look,

“Can I borrow some clothes?” she opened the jacket to reveal her underwear, nothing else, “I’m not sure where my dress went,”

    1. Perfect!!! You write them so unbelievably well… Can’t imagine what it’s gonna be after next week’s episode! These reasons why are just so right and beautifully worded… They (you) basically say it all about what real love is… Because sometimes it is simply wrong to think that love can be found in grand gestures, for true love resides in the most tiny and ridiculous details like the ” lift (of) a heartbeat with a twitch of her eyebrow, a wrinkle of her nose”. But I think your most powerful statement of this love is: “Because for every hurtful moment, every second she watched her with Henry and felt her heart being ripped free of her chest there’d be this tiny little moment, some joke or a stolen glance at her with Angie and the world would set itself right again, spinning them eventually back into each others arms.”… I bow to you, Sofa, thank you.

    2. You are THE BOMB! You are truly one of the VERY BEST writer’s on this site. I love your one chapter snippets like this. It is brilliant, and your words are so incredibly moving. Sofa, you could write twenty chapters a day and I would want more. Thanks hun.

    3. That was as good as I’ve read in many a day on this site. Full of insight into Bette’s inner mood, it seemed like a meditation of what could be again transposed over what has gone before. I loved this and I’ll be looping back to catch some more of your work. Thanks!

    4. very very lovely, even if it is tibette;) kidding hun…i liked especially the attention to those small (seemingly small but are they really? not the way you write them) details that make daily interactions into epic stories. xox
