    Starting Over (37)

Sarah reached in and introduced herself and then took Tina in for a warm embrace.

    “I’ve missed you so much.”

“Same here.  I’ve decided that you guys need to move to LA.”

    The group laughed.

Joe leaned in and gave Tina a warm hug and Bette a kiss on the cheek.  He gestured to his left.

“Hi, guys, thanks for having us.  Um, this is Kay Hamilton.  Kay, um this is Tina and Bette.”

Tina extended her hand and shook the woman’s hand.

“Thanks for joining us.  Merry Christmas.  We’ll be back in a few, we still have some guests to greet.  Oh Joe, do me a favor, I told El she could have a glass or two of wine, but with this crowd she might, ya know…Just keep an eye.  Okay?”

    “Will do.”

As they were walking away.  Bette whispered into Tina’s ear.

“Well you cannot fault the man for his taste in women, now can you?  Or didn’t you notice.”

Tina couldn’t help but laugh.  She slapped Bette’s arm.

“Well I think I have good reason to notice.  What’s your excuse?”

    “Oops.”

Bette and Tina smiled at each other and Bette leaned down and gave Tina a very tender kiss.

    “I love you.”

    “I love you more.”

Bette and Tina finished their round.  They visited with Dana and her date, a cute redhead named Lara.  Talked briefly with Helena and her date, a gorgeous French woman, named Margot and they finished their rounds by meeting James and his long time girl friend, Lynn.  By the time they finished, the groups were mingling and the party was in full swing.  Ellie had gotten her cousins to get ready for bed and join the party for a while.  They really added to the Christmas spirit.  They obviously missed their Aunt Tina and were all over her playing on the couch.

Alice jumped to the front of the room.

“Hey everyone.  I thought it might be nice if we shared a tradition that our little make shift family has.  That is if Tina and Bette don’t mind.”

Alice looked over at Tina, who nodded and smiled.  She looked eagerly at Bette, who gave her  friend one of the warmest smiles Alice had ever received.   Alice was thrown for a moment but continued with her usual gusto.

    1. Great update. You make it sweet without making it corny. I love the interaction between all the characters. Besides, you have managed to make a good guy out of Joe and not some kind of asshole who is so easy to hate. I think it makes Tina’s choici to leave hime even more significant. Thank you so much.

    2. Christmas brings family together. Your story touched on all the parts that I love about Christmas. The appreciation and love we have for family that translates into doing thoughtful actions and can also be trying to really see the other persons point of veiw and making the best of difficult situations. I enjoyed how you included a little insight into each character’s emotion and expectation of Christmas.

    3. How I love this story. You have shown all the aspects of falling in love when there are others involved and how to act so as not to cause others pain and hurt children and other family members. If not handled right this coupling could have been disastrous for everyone. It’s so good that Joe did not feel that he had become the wronged spouse and turn their daughter against her mother. Tina is the most absolutely stunningly beautiful awesome woman going. I need to stop now because I’m getting carried away but, you get the point. Thanks for showing us what love truly means.

    4. I really like how it all came together, and I’m glad that everyone’s getting along. Bette’s likely having her best Christmas ever. Thanks for another great chapter. Cheers, DnA! :)

    5. Sounded like a great party. I know something like that had to be a little ackward for them as well. But at least they are all civil with one another and really desire to be friends. Most relationships don’t end up that way. Too bad. I know with my ex it took years before I could stand to look at the man, let alone the woman he left me to marry a month later. I’m glad for Bette and Tina in this story that it is working out so well. This is the way things would go if people were mature and loving.

    6. Hello D&A, Many thanks for another fine and sweet chappie. What makes this latest one so perfect is how family and friends make the party and time of year so special. There is a true sense of belonging in this group. It was wonderful that Joe and his date were welcomed as warmly as the rest of his family. Good to see Joe’s brother and his family so accepting of Bette. The Christmas traditions were amazing. Kit singing; the opening of one special present for Ellie; Christmas day with friends and family. A heartwaming time of year. Loved when Alice busted BnT. Too funny. Still wiping the tears from my eyes. Please continue this brilliant tale soon. Your Loyal Fan.

    7. Thanks for the update. I can’t believe how well Ellie is taking all of this. I guess she’s a well adjusted kid from having a lot of support from her parents as she grew up. It would be a little difficult having both of your parents sleeping with their new partners under the same roof….
