    Starting Over (37)

“Merry Christmas, Kit.  Thanks for coming.”

“Baby Sis, you kiddin’ me.  Name me a Christmas Eve that I been sober that I ain’t spent with with my Baby Sista.

Tina looked on with her hand wrapped around Ellie’s shoulder and smiled.  Kit released Bette and pulled Tina into a big hug and whispered.

“Thank you for making her so happy.  She has never been this happy.  Take good care of her.”

Kit then spoke for all to hear.

“Baby girl, now this is a party, I told ya she was a keeper.  And she even raised the kid right.  She knows my music.  Like she really knows it.  All the good R&B stuff too.  Can you believe that.”

    Ellie smiled at Kit’s exuberance.

“Yeah, Bette, you would have gotten some serious brownie points if you told me who your sister was.”

    Bette smiled at Ellie.

    “Who would have guessed?”

“Baby Sis, I always told ya, do not underestimate the power of cool.’

They all laughed and Bette and Tina moved on to their other guests.

“Oh Ellie, don’t forget to check on your cousins.  Okay?”

“Don’t worry they’re downstairs knee deep in video games.”

    “Thanks.”

    Bette looked at Tina.

    “Cousins?”

Tina pointed to the other side of the room.

“Yeah, that’s Joe’s brother and his wife.  They’re the ones from Seattle.”

    “Who’s the woman with Joe?”

Tina gave Bette a big smile.

“That my dear, is Joe’s date.”

“You are so fucking kidding me.  How the hell did you manage that one?”

Tina gave Bette an innocent smile.

“Why Ms. Porter, I merely suggested that it might make things a bit easier if we both had dates.”

“And he happened to have a date hanging around for Christmas Eve.”

    Tina giggled.

“Well getting dates has really never been a problem for my husband.”

Bette pulled Tina in for a very intimate kiss.

“Come on let’s go meet them.”

Bette this is Joe’s brother Dan, and his wife, and one of my best friends, Sarah.  Dan reached his hand to Bette.

“It’s really nice to meet you.  Thanks for having us.”

Bette was a little stunned by the warmth of the welcome.

“Thank you for coming. It’s a pleasure to meet you.  I look forward to meeting your children.”

    1. Great update. You make it sweet without making it corny. I love the interaction between all the characters. Besides, you have managed to make a good guy out of Joe and not some kind of asshole who is so easy to hate. I think it makes Tina’s choici to leave hime even more significant. Thank you so much.

    2. Christmas brings family together. Your story touched on all the parts that I love about Christmas. The appreciation and love we have for family that translates into doing thoughtful actions and can also be trying to really see the other persons point of veiw and making the best of difficult situations. I enjoyed how you included a little insight into each character’s emotion and expectation of Christmas.

    3. How I love this story. You have shown all the aspects of falling in love when there are others involved and how to act so as not to cause others pain and hurt children and other family members. If not handled right this coupling could have been disastrous for everyone. It’s so good that Joe did not feel that he had become the wronged spouse and turn their daughter against her mother. Tina is the most absolutely stunningly beautiful awesome woman going. I need to stop now because I’m getting carried away but, you get the point. Thanks for showing us what love truly means.

    4. I really like how it all came together, and I’m glad that everyone’s getting along. Bette’s likely having her best Christmas ever. Thanks for another great chapter. Cheers, DnA! :)

    5. Sounded like a great party. I know something like that had to be a little ackward for them as well. But at least they are all civil with one another and really desire to be friends. Most relationships don’t end up that way. Too bad. I know with my ex it took years before I could stand to look at the man, let alone the woman he left me to marry a month later. I’m glad for Bette and Tina in this story that it is working out so well. This is the way things would go if people were mature and loving.

    6. Hello D&A, Many thanks for another fine and sweet chappie. What makes this latest one so perfect is how family and friends make the party and time of year so special. There is a true sense of belonging in this group. It was wonderful that Joe and his date were welcomed as warmly as the rest of his family. Good to see Joe’s brother and his family so accepting of Bette. The Christmas traditions were amazing. Kit singing; the opening of one special present for Ellie; Christmas day with friends and family. A heartwaming time of year. Loved when Alice busted BnT. Too funny. Still wiping the tears from my eyes. Please continue this brilliant tale soon. Your Loyal Fan.

    7. Thanks for the update. I can’t believe how well Ellie is taking all of this. I guess she’s a well adjusted kid from having a lot of support from her parents as she grew up. It would be a little difficult having both of your parents sleeping with their new partners under the same roof….
