“This is very mysterious Bette” Emma said “nice but mysterious “
Bette sighed – there were times when being the responsible and grown up one sucked. But she understood why Tina didn’t want to face this.
“Okay – I am sorry to do this to both of you – all of us in fact” she began. Rosemary recognised Bette’s serious voice
“Do we need a drink?”
“Please hear me out “
“Is everything okay – is Tina alright?”
Bette held up her hand “I have to tell you both something shitty and this is hard for me. Please just hear me out”
Emma looked at Rosemary who nodded and touched Bette’s hand
“Of course darling”
“Okay – yesterday afternoon while Emma and I were on a marathon Christmas shopping spree Kate showed up at the apartment. Tina says she was pretty steamed which is no fucking excuse for what happened next” Bette took a deep breath “ Kate and Tina got into what sounds like a pretty huge and angry row – Kate was criticising Emma and Tina wasn’t taking any crap and giving as good as she was getting. Until Kate said something unforgivable in my opinion, I will never forgive her for this and she really better stay away from me and Tina until hell freezes over”
“What did she say ?” Emma asked. She had a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach.
Bette looked at both women “She told us that you two had had an affair at college and that was the real reason for the feud”
The silence was total – Bette could hear her heart pounding against her chest. Emma was drained of all colour and Rosemary just looked stunned. Bette hated silences
“For the record Tina went into orbit and Kate left after that bombshell. “
Emma looked at Rosemary and then at Bette
“We could try denying it “
“You could but you aren’t going to. Look – we are shocked – of course we are. But this is history that is older than we are and it’s between the four of you. It’s something we shouldn’t know about and I swear we both wish to God that we didn’t. But we do and it’s not something we can forget. That said – there is no way we are going to let Kate being spiteful spoil anything between any of us. Tina and I love each other and that doesn’t change because of what we now know. It also doesn’t stop me wanting to have the best possible relationship as possible between you and I Emma and it doesn’t stop me loving my mother more than anything”
Bette took the double rye for Emma and the double vodka for her mother and handed them out
“You both need these “
“Thank you “
“Mom “
Bette looked at Rosemary who was still looking shocked
“Yes its true “she said looking at Emma “It happened and when Melvin found out he was very hurt and angry with both of us”
“But he forgave you or you wouldn’t be married and I wouldn’t exist “
Rosemary smiled “College brings out the foolish in us all “she looked at Emma and smiled
“I don’t regret what happened but I do regret the hurt it caused at the time – and now “
“Now “Emma said after she had drained her rye “Now this is just sheer fucking venom on the part of my soon to be former wife. I know she is mad with me”
Something suddenly occurred to Bette “Did you make that legal matter known to the other partners and the Bar Association?”
Emma looked at Bette “Oh my God – THIS is her way of getting her own back at me for that?”
“What?” Rosemary asked
“When she left me she took all her paperwork but she still kept trying to get into the apartment even though I had changed all the locks. Your brilliant daughter here found some papers that showed she was planning to breach her contract with the company. It’s enough to get her sacked without compensation and struck off if she really is determined to fight us. And she will have found about that this week – of all the spiteful and sheer bloody minded tricks to pull. To use Tina to get at me. I hate her “
“Not as much as Tina or me “Bette said “I think she burnt the last of her bridges in grand style “

Thanks! This was great! I love that Tina and Bette want let Kate hurt their relationship. Kate is in major shit now with everyone. I don’t think Tina will come back after this one. Melvin is going to go off on Kate. Lord Tina Dad is going to go crazy on Kate also. I can’t wait. Please post again today since you go back to work tomorrow. Glad to read another update. I’m happy that Bette and Tina are being reasonable about their judgment over their parent’s past. It was really a bad situation but I’m sure that they’ll get over this. As for Kate. She is a bitch! Hehe
Jesus, what a cold hearted bitch is Kate, she is so spiteful.
I’m glad B&T doesn’t Let this influence their relationship with each other and Emma and Rosemary.

I guess it´s always easier to lash out than to accept your own flaws – but this really was a shitty thing to do. I´m sure Kate´s main goal was Emma, but she had to have known the potential damage she could have caused.
Hm, Kate is a fully-fledged demon now in everyone’s eyes, but is what she’s done really totally unforgivable? Really?
Until a few months ago, Tina loved Kate just fine. Time heals everything – it certainly worked in Emma’s favor, didn’t it? Because no matter what she’s done, she’s been forgiven and everyone loves her now.
Kate’s just going to have to give it a while. Something is clearly wrong, and the woman is losing her marbles. Maybe someone will eventually reach out and figure out what it is, or encourage her to get therapy or something. Hell, it’s Christmas, and who wants to be mad at their mother at Christmas?
In the meantime though, Kate will have to answer for her professional wrong doings… that one can’t really be let go.
In personal matters, Emma was no saint and she’s rolling high now, so surely Kate will be afforded the same opportunity by everyone for forgiveness.
LOL, I can’t see any of them doing it though. I think they’ll have the cheeriest Christmas ever out of spite. ;P

I liked this chapter, and I am glad that Bette and Tina rationally thought through and did anything rash.
The love between them is very strong indeed, and it shows that they will beat with just about anything and anyone.
Bette’s view was correct, that in the past, and it’s between the parents.
Kate just really fucked up royally. She wanted to hurt and tarnish Emma, and she does not think that what she was doing to her daughter. If she doesn’t really want to be alone, and lose her daughter. She need to think it all. I hope she come to her senses, but it will not be an easy task if she want to repair with the relationship everybody.
I’m with the others, it will be just bad then you post a new chapter once a week. I was hooked on this story, and I like the usual amount :P
I look forward to the next chapter.

I am liking Kate less and less now. I am really impressed at how mature Bette and Tina are. They have come a long way where they can forgive their mothers for having an affair. It does bring hope that they will one day forgive Kate too.
