Saturday’s Plan Comes Together (Time of Day 29)

“Coming.” At the sound of the knock, Tina headed to the door.
Ever since the earlier call from Shane, she’d been wondering what was up. Shane, sweet as she was, was not someone to spontaneously offer to stop by with a meal. No, Tina knew that this had the earmarks of Bette’s planning.
Bette.
For the last week she’d kept her distance, discouraged communication. That seemed like the proper move given the recent incident that highlighted Bette’s penchant to scream first, question later.
Now, with passage of time, the fact that Bette might still be showing interest fed Tina’s hopes. Not that she’d set out to test Bette, but she just wanted her former partner to be sure of herself, of them, if she decided to move things forward.
Opening the door, Tina was greeted by Shane’s smiling face. She found herself mildly disappointed that it was just Shane, and that Bette was not making an appearance. “C’mon in,” Tina offered, stepping back to let her friend pass.
“Hey.” Shane leaned in and gave Tina a kiss on the cheek. She held up a bag. “Lunch on me.”
“On you?”
“Well,” Shane shrugged. “I will admit my neighbor maybe thought you needed some company.”
“She did, did she?”
“Actually, lunch is just the start of things.”
“Just the start?” Now this was something to pique Tina’s interest. “What’s the rest.”
“How about I tell you over lunch?”
The lunch, it turned out, was a fairly light affair. Salads, plus some finger-friendly chicken and vegetables for Angelica.
Along with the surprise of lunch came Shane’s recitation of the day’s events. It seems that Jacques, the household manager, would be coming shortly, and bringing with him a cleaning staff. While they began cleaning, Tina was to have a leisurely soak in the tub, to be followed by a manicure, pedicure, facial, and massage.
“And this was Bette’s idea?” Tina prodded.
“Well, Paige mentioned how you said you sometimes wish for a bit more leisure time. I guess Bette couldn’t let things go at just that.”
“I guess not.” Tina looked at her daughter. “And who’s to babysit?”

Well, that didn’t go quite how I thought it would… I was all amped up for a few soft core moments… But then, I *am* a bit base. (So? At least I can admit it.) It was very sweet, though, and shows that there’s hope after all. Right then, I’m wracking my brain trying to think what Tina’s said “Yes” to… Maybe they’re going up in a hot air balloon? Lord knows Bette’s got enough to keep them going ’til Canada… Bungee jumping? Space camp? Hm, it can’t be something as tame as dinner, can it? Although, that would make up for the non-existent one they had last time. Unless, Bette *is* dinner… See? the baseness rears its head again. I’m sure whatever it is, it’ll all be very romantic, and not at all what I thought. Excellent (and lengthy! Yay!) update, pseud. Mille mercis!
Now that’s what I’m talking about, a nice long chapter, slow and stead build up…but with Tina all pampered up, I hope that she just doesn’t roll over. Bette was a complete b*tch last week and one day’s pampering doesn’t forgive the sin…certainly, it softens, but Bette still has to work at this…Thanks for the great post!!!

i have to go back and find the chapter where bette sends the card…is it the same card that she was writing when alice saw her? i wonder what Yes meant then…i think it was about Tina knowing Bette so well and letting her to get them to be “us” again
I’m sure the question was “Can I bring you dinner tonight so that I can apologize in person for my major fuck up?” Loved this chapter – Tina is not generic and that gift was perfect – pamper the woman you love!!!

That was a very thoughtful thing for Bette to do. And it appears she thought of it all by herself which makes it even better. It means she’s thinking about Tina and what Tina needs and wants. Dinner plans is it? To make up for Bette canceling their last date? Hope so. 0r maybe Bette was asking to come over. I say Bette bring wine and get Tina drunk and go from there! Great updates pseud.

Hey Pseud, What a wonderful gift. How typical of Bette to just know what Tina needed. You nearly had me dropping off to La-la land with that sweet and sensuous bathing then massage. Good to see that it appears to have had the desired reason as Tina is finally saying “Yes” to Bette’s suggestion. Love the way that you are teasing me but revealing a titbit at a time. Hey, I’m the reader here! Been a long time since I wrote anything but comments. And I did one ofs, so you’ll have to figure out what’s next. But as one who did a butt-load of spring cleaning this past weekend and wishes I could afford a massage, I can understand Tina saying yes to whatever it was.
Calling you a tease again just doesn’t seem to convey the sentiment enough.. I loved this part. It was long.. and really cool how many things Bette thought about.
