Round n Round We Go (Ch.25 finale)

Tina sat in between her wife’s legs and rested against her. She observed as their son set up his sketch book, and look long and carefully at the marble statue, then started to compose his piece. And she heard the brunette sigh, just a very light sigh, but she caught it. “What is it, Bette?”

“Nothing…” Bette shook gently and put her chin on the blonde’s shoulder. After a while as the sun beat down on her arm comfortably, she whispered her thoughts. “I don’t know… I just miss Marcus so much. Is it weird that I miss him in front of a sculpture of a naked man?” She laughed her small laugh and sighed again. “And I’m so proud of Michelangelo. He’s just too wonderful. I know he’s everything Marcus would want.”

“Awww, baby… I know you do. I miss him very much too.” Tina caressed the strong forearm that wrapped her tightly. “And I also know, Marcus is proud of him, and he’s proud of us. We did good with his boy.”

“I can’t believe I missed so many years of his childhood.”

It pained them both. Not only years of the boy’s life, but years of their own. Tina craned her neck to look at the brunette, and saw deeply into the soft brown pools. She heard the underlying context in her voice. “Bette, there’s nothing we can do about it.”

    “I know, I know.”

“We got through it. And we can move on from it, make the best out of the days to come.” She gave Bette a kiss on her jaw. “Let go, baby, you have to let it go.”

“I can let go, it’s because I’m with you now.” With a tightening of her grip, the brunette returned a small moan, and connected their lips.
It was an innocent kiss they shared, tender, slow, nonsexual. They invested themselves into the kiss, not even noticing that a pair of big brown eyes were curiously peeping at them.

Michelangelo just finished sketching the outline of the structure before him, and he turned to see what his mothers were doing. That was when he saw them talking and smiling softly toward each other, and they exchanged some comforting gestures, then they kissed. It was a beautiful and heartfelt scene. He felt his face burn at such intimacy displayed between his mothers, but he also knew that it was a picture elegant and brilliant enough to be a piece of art. The light was perfect, cascading down from behind them, reflecting the silkiness of the brunette’s mop of hair and the blonde’s waterfall of gold. Their arms intertwined and their bodies molded together harmonically, like a quiet gypsum sculpture. At that moment, he understood, what the women had was something honorable, admirable, something humble, and grand at the same time.
