Planet Terror: Love in the Time of DC-2

The women looked at one another, did a silent head count, and then decided to ignore ominously unnamed pilot for a time.

“Let’s go in the direction Helena was supposed to sail.” Bette said tersely. “We’ll find them somewhere on dry land.” She watched as Shane handed a hastily scribbled note to the pilot, and the chopper was turned immediately around.

    Meanwhile…

Helena and Lara were preparing as many homemade bombs as they possibly could. A missile launcher was actually found below deck, but it only had three missiles in a case beside it.  They would save them for later.

“Oh do give me those!” Peggy demanded, seeing that the weapons they had amassed were beginning to clog up the deck. “We’re running out of space with this nonsense. Let me try the missile thingy.”

“Mummy!” Helena shouted, worried that her mother would hurt herself, but Peggy surprised them all.  She knelt, aimed, and fired one perfect shot.

The explosion made a temporary gap in the swollen, teaming wall of zombies. Body parts went flying, chunks of flesh hitting the sea water, which already smelled rather off, adding to the pale pink and deep dark purple color of the water that hit the shore. The infected were bubbling and melting more and more as the days went by.  The night before, Helena had not slept well, nor had Lara, for the stench had begun to reach their boat.

“Well done!” Lara patted the older woman on the back. “That’s…what…twenty down and ten thousand to go?” Lara had begun to wear dark red material woven around her upper arms and wrists.  The material was flame resistant and tough—difficult to bite through because of the weave she used.  Lara also spent most of her nights planning their attack.  Unfortunately, she could not get around the sheer numbers of the infected.  Other than planning for the attack itself, she found ways to keep Caiohme, Peggy and herself from becoming infected during the attack.  She had already built Helena a special baby carrier, which ensured that Helena was as mobile as possible, while Caiohme was thoroughly covered.

At Lara’s teasing, Peggy burst into laughter, evoking the same response in Caiohme who sat far away but still could hear her grandmother’s and mother’s voices. Peggy went to spend time with her, warning Helena once again to be careful of the chemicals and fuses she worked with. Of course the chemicals were mainly gasoline, and the ‘fuses’ were hunks of torn material, but Peggy still worried.

    1. hb… I was laughing too hard to be worried about the teeming hordes of infected waiting for them all on shore. I almost feel bad for the “ominously unnamed pilot”, cos I’m sure he’s just zombie fodder. What of Kit though? And Jenny!! (I think she’ll be alright regardless. Maybe she can tame the one she was about to tussle with and come riding to the rescue of everyone with an army of Tiger Sharks…) This & the last chapter were great, and yay for reunions! Now, let them all kick some zombie…. arse! Thanks for the post + I want more… Cheers, hb

    2. “…jesus Christ we’re fucking viciously fucked…” I’ll probably use that line in the very near future…it was very cute how Bette and Helena reunited…so precious…and Peggy’s full of surprises isn’t she…And Jenny, omg, i’m in stitches…kitties of the sea? is that a variation of chicken of the sea? whatever, it was funny as hell…pps

    3. God HB, you make mayhem and horror such fun! Kit and nameless one (He better not be the Lord God Jehova, ultimate author of all things apocalyptic, or you’ll be sorry) surely made a fortuitous appearance. Yeah, I think Jenny can handle Sounder and the other kitties. How are her retinas? And will the helicopter blades clear an goodly area of bubbling zombies, mincing them as they melt? And Helena IS growing her leg back! Too bad she’s at that ackward stage.

    4. I’m duly impressed by Peggy’s deft handling of the missile thingy and the awesome Belena reunion, but those scenes pale in comparison to Jenny vs. Bad Kitty. Thanks for making my dreams come true, HB! Is Jenny acting more insane than usual because she drank hallucination-inducing saltwater? In any event, bring on the main event! The tiger shark doesn’t stand a chance. Someone should alert Greenpeace.

    5. oh dear, did i make jenny sound a bit like cartman from southpark? ‘that’s a BAD KITTY!’ oops. rufus, you KNOW it’s gonna have to be a draw:)

    6. Hello HB, you definitely deserve all the praise you get and more… no modesty from you… your that damn good. The reunion is finally here, Bette and Kit’s and then we get the gang all together again, this is so much fun and addictive. Keep em coming. Sincerely, JC
