Only Women Bleed – Chapter 7

“Mom!  What are you doing here?” Angelica burst into the room, her hair a wild mess and her pajamas wrinkled.

“And good morning to you too, my beautiful girl,” Tina said while kissing her daughter on the cheek.

“I thought we should all talk about what’s going on,” explained Bette.

“What?” Angelica looked at each parent questioningly. “What’s going on?”

“Well for one thing,” said Tina, “why did you call mama last night and make her pick you up?”

“I didn’t want to be home alone,” said Angelica.

“Mike was with you,” Tina replied.

“Yeah, right.  That’s as good as being alone,” Angelica said with a little snort.

“Are you fighting with your brother?” asked Tina.

    “No.”

“Were you mad that I went out last night with Kerry?” Tina inquired.

    “No.”

“Did you just miss my scintillating conversation?” asked Bette, trying to break the tension in the room a bit.

“God no!” moaned Angelica, desperate to change the subject.  “So how was your date last night anyway, mom?”

“I wouldn’t really call it a date,” said Tina with a smile.

“Oh, what do you call it when you get all dressed up, meet a pretty lady, have a meal together and kiss goodnight?” the twelve-year-old teased.

“I did not kiss Kerry!” Tina said indignantly.  “She’s Kelly’s older sister, is new in town, and wants to learn more about my business.”

“Oh, your ‘business’,” Angelica did her famous air quotation marks for emphasis.  “So that’s what you call it.”

Bette looked on in amusement at this exchange, a smile on her face that Tina truly did not seem to be involved with Kerry.

“You are so fresh!” exclaimed Tina, her face relaxing in realization that Angelica was acting perfectly normal this morning.

“Well that’s what the therapy fund is for!” Alice remarked following Tina’s explanation of recent events.  “You guys have an advantage over most parents.  At least you know why your kid’s screwed up.  Divorced, bi-racial lesbian moms, a remarried ex step-father, an ex step-brother, need I go on?”

    “Please don’t,” replied Tina.

“So what’s up with you and Porter?” Alice asked.

“Nothing’s up.  We are doing what is called ‘parenting’,” said Tina.

“Well there seems to be a special sparkle in Porter’s eye every Tuesday,” Alice said, looking away and sipping her latte.

“Maybe she’s just talked to Carolyn when you see her,” Tina fished.

“Carolyn is so yesterday’s news T,” Alice said with a dramatic roll of the eyes.

“Really,” said Tina, “I didn’t know that.”

“And you really don’t care either, right?”

    “Right.”

“Right my ass,” Alice said under her breath. “So what are we going to do about the big 50?”

“What?” replied Tina with a puzzled look.

“Keep up with me here T,” said Alice.  “Porter’s 50th birthday next month.  What are we going to do?”

“I haven’t celebrated Bette’s birthday for years, why would I start now?” asked Tina.

“Only you know for sure,” teased Alice.

“I think you should probably have this conversation with Kit and Angelica.  I’m sure they’ll have some thoughts,” offered Tina.

    1. Hey 24b4t, I must say you has me there when Angie was having that dream and I thought it was Mikey too,,,but happy it wasnt’,, I like howAngie has both her mothers on the palm of her hand,,,LOl she is good and I like how you have the interaction with B&T its a good one where they listen to each other, great job!!

    2. Still don’t LIKE MIKEY!!! He is not coming to Angie’s aid, but he instead asks her to not say again as if he was the actuall MONSTER!!! Could it be his DAD???? Please let Angie tell!!

    3. so the ex-stepfather, Henry [?] sexually abused Angie[?] and she’s trying to protect TINA, and Bette…Mikey MUST speak up to help his sister…and her parents…pps

    4. IF its Henry, actuall whomever it is, I’m sure Mamma B is gonna want to kill someone. Mike isn’t helping by keeping it quiet either. Love the little banter between B &T and how Angie and Alice fill in the information for them so they don’t have to ask the questions.

    5. Poor Angie. I’m glad Bette made the appointment with the therapist. I hope they can get to the bottom of her nightmares, and quickly! Great post 24B&T! More please…

    6. Tina should celebrate Bette’s birthday this year because both are excited that the other is not really in a relationship. Besides Angelica and the rest of the family would benefit if Bette and Tina were a family again.

    7. Hmm… Mike’s doing the wrong thing by keeping it quiet, and he’s definitely lost Angie’s trust. I hope it all comes out in the sessions. As for Porter’s 50th… I think Tina likely has *loads* of very specific ideas on how she and Bette could celebrate it. Thanks for the update, 24.

    8. Thanks for the warning, poor Angie. Guess we’ll have to see where this goes but I really feel for the kid, can’t be easy keeping all of that inside. PPS

    9. Good chapter. I’m glad to see that Mike isn’t the culprit. Seems like it might be one of his friends. He’s trying to handle it without the adults, which is wrong, but typical of how a teenager would think.
